It could pay for itself
Money a home can be owed under the official rules, and some of it you have to claim yourself. Home Alerts will tell you when it's due and how to claim it: for your own home, free, and for every address you watch on Family.
If your power is off for more than 12 hours, then £45 for every 12 hours more. Most of it is paid automatically.
If your network gives you less than 2 days' notice of planned work. You have to claim this one, within a month.
Four or more cuts of 3 hours or longer between April and March. You have to claim this one too.
A Cold Weather Payment, November to March, if you get certain benefits. Scotland pays a Winter Heating Payment instead.
Through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, or £9,000 for homes off the gas grid on oil or LPG. England and Wales.

Questions
Is it free?+
Yes. Your own home's dashboard and email alerts will be free, including the alerts when your home is owed money. A Family plan, with text alerts and up to five addresses, will be paid.
How is it different from the Met Office app?+
The Met Office app covers the weather. Home Alerts puts the weather together with flood warnings, your power network, UKHSA health alerts, your water company and money you're owed, for your postcode and your family's, and tells you only when something affects that address.
When does it open?+
In October. The first 100 people on the list get in first, and everyone on the list gets an email the day it opens for their area.
What do you keep about me?+
Your email, your postcode and the answers you choose to give here. We use them to tell you when Home Alerts opens and to decide where to launch first. We never sell them, and you can ask us to delete them at any time.
Is it an official warning service?+
No. PreparedBritain is independent and not affiliated with HM Government. Official warnings always come first: call 105 for a power cut, Floodline on 0345 988 1188 for flooding, and 999 in an emergency.
Which areas will it cover?+
All of Great Britain for weather warnings. Power cut alerts at launch cover the UK Power Networks, National Grid, SSEN and Northern Powergrid areas; Electricity North West and SP Energy Networks don't publish live data yet. Flood warnings start in England.
