Affiliate disclosure

Last updated 10 September 2026

As an Amazon Associate, PreparedBritain earns from qualifying purchases. We may earn a commission when you buy, or a fee when you request a quote, through our links — it never affects what we recommend. Amazon prices come from Amazon's own product data and show the date and time they were retrieved. Prices at other retailers are checked by us, less often. Prices and stock can change at any time, so always check the retailer's price before you buy.

How the money works

Some links on this site are affiliate links. There are two kinds. If you click a retailer link and buy something, the retailer pays us a small commission. If you click an installer or quote link and request a quote, that firm may pay us a fee for the referral. Different firms pay different amounts. You don't pay us anything, and we don't add anything to the price you're offered.

As an Amazon Associate, PreparedBritain earns from qualifying purchases. We also work with merchants on the Awin affiliate network, currently BLUETTI, EcoFlow, Heatable, iHeat, ReadyWise, Water-to-Go, Waterdrop and Yale Store. Affiliate links on our pages are marked with rel="sponsored" in the page code, as search-engine guidelines require. Links to free official services, such as the MCS installer register or the Gas Safe Register, are not affiliate links.

What commissions never buy

  • Rankings. Our top picks are our top picks. A higher commission has never moved a product up a table, and a zero commission has never kept a good product off one. Where the best answer earns us nothing — tap water in rotated bottles, a wind-up radio you already own — we say so.
  • Installer recommendations. Where we link to installers, we also link to the free official register, and the fee a firm pays us never decides whether we list it. We don't pass your details to installers or retailers: any quote form you fill in is the firm's own, under its own privacy policy. How we handle newsletter signups is in our privacy policy.
  • Coverage. We tell you when not to buy. Every review page carries an honest callout for the situations where the product is the wrong choice. That's a feature of this site, not a legal formality.
  • Sponsored content. We don't publish it. No merchant has seen, edited or paid for any page on this site before publication.

Prices and availability

We show when each price was last checked. Amazon prices come from Amazon's own product data, with the date and time they were retrieved. Prices at other retailers are checked by us, less often. We don't show installer prices: they depend on a survey of your home. Prices move, though — the price at the retailer at the moment you buy, or in the installer's written quote, is the one that counts, so always confirm it there.

What we test

Where we have bought and used a product ourselves, the review says so. Where we haven't, the page is a comparison built from verified specifications and official guidance, and it says that plainly. See how we test.
