Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Here's exactly what happens on preparedbritain.co.uk — it's a short list.

Cookies we set

Browsing this site sets no cookies. You can read every page, use the trackers and run the kit builder without any cookie being stored. We don't use advertising, tracking pixels or social-media embeds.

We store something in your browser only if you press one of these two buttons:

• "Don't add a source label to my retailer clicks" (below) saves pb-source-optout in your browser's local storage so we remember your choice. It holds nothing else, and "Add the source label again" removes it.
• "Alert me when this changes" on one of our trackers adds a small script (a service worker) that lets your browser show our alerts. If you then allow notifications, your browser also creates a push subscription for them, and we keep a copy so we can send them. Our privacy policy explains what it contains. Blocking notifications for this site in your browser settings stops the alerts, and clearing this site's data in your browser removes the script and the subscription.

Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count which pages people read and how they find them. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser: Vercel tells visits apart using a hash (a scrambled code) made from your browser's request, and each visitor session is discarded after 24 hours. We only see the counts added up. Our privacy policy lists what each count may be stored with.

When you click a link to a retailer, we also send Vercel a one-word label for how you reached the page, such as google, chatgpt or none, so we can see which kinds of visit lead people to the products we recommend, and improve the pages and topics that help most. If you've moved between pages on our site first, the label is usually internal. Your browser works the label out and keeps it only in the open page, so the label itself is never saved on your device. To turn it off, press the button below. We also leave it off if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track.

When you click through to a retailer or installer (Amazon, or a merchant on the Awin network such as ReadyWise, Water-to-Go or Heatable), that company or network sets a cookie in your browser so that if you buy something, the purchase can be credited to us. Amazon's attribution cookie lasts 24 hours; Awin's typically lasts around 30 days. These are set on the retailer's site under their own cookie policies — not by us — and they're how we fund the site. Controlling cookies

Every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies, per-site or wholesale — look for "cookies" in your browser's settings. Blocking cookies for preparedbritain.co.uk breaks nothing here.
