Every recommendation on this site starts from the Government's own Prepare guidance and the National Risk Register. Products are researched and spec-verified against manufacturer data and multiple retailer listings — and where we haven't used something hands-on ourselves, we say so plainly on the page rather than pretend otherwise. How we work

• Official sources first. Claims about risk, water, power or safety trace to primary sources — GOV.UK, the Environment Agency, Defra, ONS, the National Risk Register — and we link them so you can check.
• Live data, not stale advice. Our trackers (hosepipe bans, reservoir levels, national risks) are refreshed on a schedule, and every page shows when its data was last checked.
• Honesty over commission. We tell you when not to buy — and how the affiliate money works, plainly, in our affiliate disclosure.
• Calm, not doom. Preparedness here means the same thing it means in the Government's Prepare campaign: a sensible household habit, like a smoke alarm or a spare torch. No bunkers, no panic.
