Home Alerts terms of use

Version 16 October 2026

1. Who provides Home Alerts

PreparedBritain is run by TMR Digital, 73 Stoneleigh Broadway, Stoneleigh, Epsom, KT17 2HP. We provide Home Alerts. In these terms “we” and “us” means TMR Digital. Contact us at hello@preparedbritain.co.uk.

2. What Home Alerts is

Home Alerts is a free information service. It emails you when public data from these sources says something affects your home: the Met Office's weather warnings, the Environment Agency's flood warnings, and the live power-cut lists that UK Power Networks, Northern Powergrid, National Grid Electricity Distribution and SSEN publish. We check them about every 10 minutes, and usually email within 15 minutes of the source. Your page on our site, My home, shows the same and more.

3. It is not an emergency service

Alerts can be late, wrong or missed, and the data the sources publish can be wrong. Always follow official warnings and the advice of the emergency services. Don't wait for an email from us.

  • Power cut: call 105.
  • Flooding: Floodline, 0345 988 1188.
  • Danger to life: 999.

4. What it covers, and what it doesn't

  • Power cuts only on the four networks that publish live data. We can't read the live data of Electricity North West, SP Energy Networks or NIE Networks, so we can't see power cuts in their areas. National Grid Electricity Distribution doesn't update its live list overnight, so we can't see new cuts on its network then.
  • Flood warnings in England only, from the Environment Agency. We can't see flood warnings from Natural Resources Wales, SEPA in Scotland or in Northern Ireland yet.
  • Weather warnings as the Met Office draws its warning areas. We tell you when a warning at the levels you chose covers your postcode's point.
  • When we email. We hold amber and yellow weather warnings, and warnings that end, between 22:00 and 07:00, and send them at 07:00. Power cuts, red warnings, flood warnings and severe flood warnings come straight away. Otherwise we send at most one email an hour. Very occasionally we hold an email for a few minutes for a check.

5. Who can use it

You must be 18 or over. One account per email address. The postcode must be a UK home you live at or are responsible for.

6. Your part

Give us a correct postcode and an email address that works, and keep them up to date.

7. Changes and pauses

We may pause the service, or part of it, for example when a source is publishing wrong data, and we may change or stop it. We may close an account whose emails bounce, or that is misused.

8. Ending

You can stop the emails at any time with the one-click unsubscribe in every email, and delete your account at any time on My home. Our privacy notice says what we keep and for how long.

9. Information about money

When a long power cut may mean your network owes you compensation, we may tell you, with the official way to claim. That is general information, based on Ofgem's rules and our reading of the network's data. It isn't financial advice, and only your network can say what it owes. We don't make claims for you, we take no fee or commission, and we never pass your details to claims companies.

10. Our responsibility to you

We provide Home Alerts with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Otherwise, as far as the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss caused by an alert that was late, wrong or missing, or by relying on Home Alerts instead of official warnings.
