Hilka Pro-Craft Folding Shovel review
By Tom Calder
We no longer recommend this model, so it no longer appears in our buying guides. In its place, we now recommend Draper 51002 Folding Steel Shovel in our Winter driving kit guide.
Key specs
The maker's figures.
- What it is
- Folding steel shovel
- Fits / size
- 460mm extended (blade 155 x 113mm)
- When you'd use it
- Clearing snow/mud from around wheels
- Boot storage
- Folds down compact with carry pouch; 0.64kg
A cheap, compact folding shovel that handles the job it's meant for — clearing snow from around wheels or gaining traction when stuck. It's not a substitute for a full-size spade, but at this price it's sensible, low-effort winter insurance to leave in the boot.
- Best for
- Leaving permanently in the car boot as a lightweight backup for clearing snow from around wheels or digging out a stuck car.
- Skip it if
- You regularly need to clear a driveway or dig out deep snow

Researched, not used. We haven't used this product. This review is built from the maker's specifications, owner reports and our own sizing.
What we like
- Cheap and small enough to leave in the car year-round without noticing it
- Serrated edge helps break up packed snow or ice
- Folds down compact with a storage pouch included
Worth knowing
- Small blade and thin-gauge steel — not built for heavy or frequent digging
- Folding joints are a weak point compared with a one-piece shovel

Who shouldn't buy this
If you regularly need to clear a driveway or dig out deep snow, buy a proper full-size snow shovel — this is a compact emergency backup, not a main tool. (Note: this is a shovel, not snow socks or chains — the UK has no chain requirement on public roads, and chains damage cleared tarmac; see Highway Code rule 229.)
This is a Researched review: we haven't used this product. We check every specification against at least two independent sources, re-check the UK price on a schedule where we can track it automatically, and say plainly who it isn't for. Commissions never change a rating.

Best for UK drivers taking a car to the Alps or mountain Europe in winter who want a quick-fitting, comfortable metal chain rather than a fiddly manual one.
