A capable, genuinely four-season unit that cools a large room quickly and adds heating and dehumidifying, so it earns its keep beyond the odd heatwave. It is on the pricey and noisy side, so weigh it up against a simpler 9,000 BTU model if you only need summer cooling.

Who shouldn't buy this
Don't buy if you only need occasional cooling for a small bedroom, or if you can't fit the exhaust hose to a sealing window or door: like all single-hose portables it vents hot air outside, so a cheaper 9,000 BTU model, tower fan or evaporative cooler may suit you better.
