Spectrum Handheld Digital TDS Meter review
Plumbers, filter/softener owners and private-supply checks who want a quick, repeatable TDS reading — not a safety test.

This gives an instant total-dissolved-solids reading in parts per million, which is genuinely useful for tracking a water softener, filter cartridge or reverse-osmosis system over time. It tells you nothing about lead, bacteria, nitrates or anything else that actually determines whether water is safe to drink.

- Instant, one-touch reading with no reagents or waiting
- Cheap and pocket-sized — handy for spot-checking filter/softener performance
- Simple LCD display with °C/°F temperature readout, includes batteries and a case
- Measures TDS only — no indication of lead, bacteria, pesticides or hardness minerals specifically
- A low or high ppm number doesn't by itself mean water is safe or unsafe
Who shouldn't buy this
Don't buy this if you're checking lead risk in a pre-1970s house or the safety of a private borehole/spring supply — a TDS meter can't answer that; use a UKAS-accredited lab test kit instead.
