tado Radiator X Starter Kit review
tado Smart Radiator Thermostat X Starter Kit
By Tom Calder
This starter kit swaps onto your existing radiator valve in a few minutes with no draining and no plumber, giving useful per-room scheduling from day one. tado's headline 'up to 55%' saving assumes its optional AI Assist subscription (£3.99 a month), so budget for that if you want the full effect.
- Best for
- Households who want per-room heating control without replacing valve bodies or draining the system.
- Skip it if
- You want whole-house zoning immediately

Researched, not used. We haven't used this product. This review is built from the maker's specifications, owner reports and our own sizing.
What we like
- Genuine DIY install — no draining or water-leak risk, and the six adapters fit 'almost all radiator valves', per tado
- Bridge X gives Thread/Matter connectivity for reliable control via the app, Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple Home
- Rechargeable USB-C battery rather than disposables; tado says a charge lasts about a year (the USB-C cable isn't in the box)
Worth knowing
- The starter kit fits only one radiator: zoning the whole house means a head for every other radiator, and tado recommends one Bridge X per 100 m² in larger homes
- tado's 'up to 55%' figure compares its £3.99-a-month AI Assist with the free app, and its 'up to £244 a year' is its own estimate from its users' data: both are tado's modelling, not independent tests

Who shouldn't buy this
Skip the starter kit on its own if you want whole-house zoning immediately — you'll need extra thermostat heads for every other radiator, and tado's headline 'up to 55%' saving assumes the paid AI Assist add-on rather than the free app.
