Black+Decker BXAC40006GB review
Black+Decker BXAC40006GB 9000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner
By Tom Calder
The manufacturer has replaced this model with a newer version, so we no longer recommend buying it new — remaining listings are old stock or secondhand. The newer model, BLACK+DECKER BXAC40034GB 9000 BTU Smart 3-in-1 Air Conditioner, has taken its place in our Portable air conditioners guide.

A competent, well-supported 9,000 BTU portable unit from a familiar brand, doing cooling, dehumidifying and fan duties in one box. It is a sensible mid-range choice for a small-to-medium room, provided you can vent the hose out of a window.
- Best for
- Cooling a single bedroom or home office through a summer heatwave.
- Skip it if
- You only need to take the edge off the odd hot day

Researched, not used. We haven't used this product. This review is built from the maker's specifications, owner reports and our own sizing.
What we like
- Established brand with a 2-year guarantee (1 year extendable on registration)
- Genuine 3-in-1: air conditioning, dehumidifier and fan modes, with a 24-hour timer and remote
- Efficient R290 refrigerant and Class A rating for its category, on castor wheels for easy moving
Worth knowing
- Noisy at full speed (around 65 dB), which many find intrusive overnight
- Single-hose design must be vented through a window and is thirsty to run, so it is not cheap in a long heatwave

When two products are close, commission can decide which one we pick. A clearly better product always wins. Who shouldn't buy this
You only need to take the edge off the odd hot day. A tower fan or evaporative cooler costs a fraction of the price and running cost. A portable AC only earns its keep if you face genuine, repeated heat and can vent it properly.
This is a Researched review: we haven't used this product. We check every specification against at least two independent sources, re-check the UK price on a schedule where we can track it automatically, and say plainly who it isn't for. Commissions never change a rating.
