Black+Decker BXAC40034GB review
BLACK+DECKER BXAC40034GB 9000 BTU Smart 3-in-1 Air Conditioner
By Tom Calder
Black+Decker's current 9,000 BTU smart unit, which took over the BXAC40006GB's Amazon listing. It adds Wi-Fi app control and a 2-year warranty, but there's no energy-label record for this exact model, so there's no rated kW or label noise to show; its EU sibling is labelled 2.6kW and 65dB(A). The '45dB' in retailer listings is a sound-pressure figure, not comparable with label noise. Amazon showed a future availability date in October 2026.

Our review
This app-connected Black+Decker 9,000 BTU portable for the UK and Ireland, which adds the BLACK+DECKER Home app, Alexa and Google Home to the familiar cool, dry and fan formula at a light 21kg. The thing to know before buying is what is missing: no energy-label record exists for this exact model, so its real cooling output and noise are unconfirmed. It suits a small room and a buyer who values app scheduling over verified figures.
What the numbers mean, and which are missing
Retailer listings give 9,000 BTU, class A, a room of up to 28m² (one listing also says 34m²), 26 litres a day of dehumidifying with an adjustable humidistat, 21kg, and a cabinet 70cm high by 32.8cm wide by 28cm deep. What we could not find is an EU or GB energy-label record for the BXAC40034GB, the only place cooling capacity is measured to a common standard. The nearest evidence is Black+Decker's EU sibling, the BXAC9002E, placed on the EU market from June 2025 and labelled 2.6kW, EER 2.6, class A, 1.0kWh an hour and 65dB(A) sound power, which is what an honest 9,000 BTU unit looks like. If this model matches, running it flat out costs about 26p an hour at the Ofgem price cap unit rate of 26.32p per kWh for October to December 2026. Treat that as an estimate until a label appears.
In a British home
It is single-hose, so the exhaust goes out of a window through the kit in the box; one Irish retailer lists a drainage hose too, which you will want in Dry mode, when 26 litres a day has to go somewhere. That listing's advice to keep the hose as short and straight as possible holds for any portable. The thermostat runs from 18°C to 32°C, Euronics lists two power levels and several fan speeds, and the app adds a 24-hour timer with weekly scheduling, so a bedroom can be cooled before bedtime. At 21kg it is lighter than the Meaco (24kg) or the Pro Breeze 9000 (26.5kg), though Euronics still suggests two people for moving it between floors.
How it compares
The Black+Decker BXAC40006GB it replaced on Amazon is the same 9,000 BTU, three-mode idea without the app, listed at 65dB and for rooms up to 18m²; the new model claims a bigger room but rests on no published label. The Pro Breeze 9000 BTU Smart is the closer fight: app control too, a published label of 2.6kW and 65dB(A), two window kits, 26.5kg, and a place on Which?'s tested list. If heating matters, the MeacoCool Pro 9000 CH adds a heat pump, UK-based support and both a standard and a flexible window kit at 24kg. See the comparison page for the rest.
Living with it
The 45dB in the listings is a sound-pressure reading, which one retailer qualifies as the low-speed figure; it is not label sound power and is not what you will hear on high. Budget for the 65dB(A) of its EU sibling until proven otherwise. The BLACK+DECKER Home app connects over home Wi-Fi, saves favourite settings as Tap to Run shortcuts and works with Alexa and Google Home; a remote covers the basics. The guarantee is two years. Stock is the other question: the Amazon UK listing that took over from the BXAC40006GB showed a future availability date in October 2026, and both Irish retailers we checked showed it out of stock, so check the code on the box before comparing prices.
Safety
Black+Decker's EU sibling uses R290 (propane) refrigerant, and its label fiche says never to interfere with the refrigerant circuit or dismantle the appliance yourself. Keep the vents clear and use a wall socket, since AEG and De'Longhi both rule out extension leads for their portables, and if it has travelled on its side leave it upright for a day before first use, the rule Meaco gives for its own units. Our guide to whether a portable air conditioner is worth it covers venting and running costs.
Our verdict
A reasonable choice for a small bedroom or office if it turns up at a good price and you want app scheduling and a light unit, knowing that its cooling output is inferred from a sibling rather than published. If verified figures matter, the Pro Breeze gives the same features with a label behind them; if you want heating as well, the Meaco does more. And if you have not yet tried a fan with proper daytime shading, start with keeping cool in a heatwave.

Questions
Does the Black+Decker BXAC40034GB have an energy label?
We could not find an EU or GB energy-label record for this exact model, so its rated kW and label noise are unpublished. Black+Decker's EU sibling, the BXAC9002E, is labelled 2.6kW, EER 2.6, class A and 65dB(A), the best guide until a record for the BXAC40034GB appears.
How loud is the Black+Decker BXAC40034GB?
Retailers quote 45dB, which one describes as the low-speed figure and which is sound pressure measured at a distance. Its EU sibling's label gives 65dB(A) sound power, typical for a single-hose portable, so plan for that on higher speeds.
Does the BXAC40034GB work with Alexa and Google Home?
Yes, according to its retailer listings. It connects to the BLACK+DECKER Home app over your home Wi-Fi and works with Amazon Alexa and Google Home for voice control, with a 24-hour timer and weekly schedules set from the phone.
Is the BXAC40034GB the same as the BXAC40006GB?
No. The BXAC40006GB is the older 9,000 BTU model without app control, which this one replaced on Amazon UK; the old listing now redirects to the new one. Check the code on the box before comparing prices or specifications.
