Snugpak Jungle Bag Sleeping Bag review
By Tom Calder
A well-made British warm-weather bag that packs down remarkably small and adds a handy zip-over mosquito net. It is genuinely good at its job, but that job is comfort down to about 7°C, not cold-weather survival.
- Best for
- A light, tiny-packing summer bag for warm-weather trips or the milder half of a grab-bag

What we like
- Very small pack size and light (about 900g) for a square-cut bag, so it slots easily into a grab bag
- Roll-away mosquito net in the hood and a square shape that opens flat into a quilt for versatility
- Snugpak build quality and UK support at a modest price
Worth knowing
- Comfort rating of only about 7°C means it is a warm-weather bag, not a winter one
- Square foot and single-season fill trade a little thermal efficiency for room to move

Our review
The Snugpak Jungle Bag is a 900 g synthetic sleeping bag with a built-in mosquito net, rated by Snugpak to a comfort temperature of 7°C. It is the lightweight, warm-weather option on our sleeping bags page: a good summer camping bag and an easy thing to keep in a car, but not enough on its own for an unheated house in winter.
What it is
Snugpak's page lists a comfort rating of 7°C and a low rating of 2°C, a weight of 900 g and a pack size of about 15 by 18 cm. The fill is Travelsoft polyester, the outer is Micro Diamond polyester and the lining is Paratex Antibacterial polyester. A mosquito net rolls away into the hood when not needed. Unlike the Softie range, which Snugpak makes in the UK, the Jungle Bag is made in China.
Snugpak's temperature FAQ says the comfort figure assumes you are lightly clothed, in a base layer or pyjamas, and that the low figure is where fit people have used the bag with minimal discomfort. No EN or ISO test is cited, so the ratings are the maker's own guidance.
Where it fits in a household kit
A 7°C comfort rating covers a British summer and a mild spring or autumn night. In a house with no heating in January it is not enough on its own, though it works well as an inner layer inside a warmer bag or under a wool blanket. Where it earns its place is the car: at 900 g and the size of a loaf, it lives in the boot all year, and a bag at that weight is far better than nothing if you are stuck overnight. Our winter storm guide covers what else belongs in the car.
The mosquito net is a travel feature, but it also makes the bag a pleasant one for a garden or a tent in midge season, which keeps it in use rather than sealed away. Synthetic fill tolerates damp and compression better than down, so a year in a boot does it little harm.
How it compares
On the sleeping bags page the Snugpak Softie 9 Hawk is the one for a cold house: minus 5°C comfort, 1,500 g, made in the UK, at a higher price. The Mountain Warehouse Microlite 950 is the middle ground at 1,400 g and a 5°C comfort rating. If you want something for a grab bag rather than a bed, the Blizzard survival bag packs smaller again but is an emergency shelter, not a sleeping bag.
Our verdict
Buy it as a car bag or a summer bag that doubles as an extra layer at home, and keep it in its stuff sack in the boot from October to March, when a breakdown on a cold night is most likely. Skip it if it would be your only sleeping bag for a winter power cut: a 7°C comfort rating leaves no margin for an older person or a child in a cold room, and the Softie 9 is the right tool for that job.

Who shouldn't buy this
Do not buy this expecting it to keep you warm through a winter power cut or a cold night below single figures. For year-round emergency warmth choose a 3-4 season bag; keep the Jungle Bag for summer use or as a packable warm-weather layer.

Questions
Is the Snugpak Jungle Bag warm enough for winter?
Not on its own. Snugpak rates it to a comfort temperature of 7°C and a low of 2°C, which suits summer and mild shoulder-season nights. For a cold house, use it inside a warmer bag or choose the Softie 9.
How much does it weigh?
Snugpak gives 900 g, with a pack size of about 15 by 18 cm, so it takes up little room in a car boot or a cupboard.
Does the mosquito net get in the way?
It rolls away into the hood when not in use, according to Snugpak, so you only deploy it when you need it.
Where is it made?
Snugpak's page says the Jungle Bag is made in China. The Softie range is made at Snugpak's UK factory.
