Asda, Aldi, Tesco and Sainsbury's recalls checked: what the official notices list, and when

We read the Food Standards Agency's alerts and the government's product safety list. Recalls naming Asda, Aldi, Tesco and Sainsbury's are on them, published from 8 to 19 October. The newest food recalls, including a Walkers sharing box on 30 October, name none of the four. What each notice covers and how to check your cupboards.

In short

Headlines this week warn Asda, Aldi, Tesco and Sainsbury's shoppers over fresh recalls. We checked the official notices on 31 October 2026. Each of the four supermarkets is named in a recall, but those notices were published from 8 to 19 October. Halo Foods' Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars, supplied to selected Sainsbury's and Asda stores, were recalled on 13 October because the bars were packed in Skinny Whip Toffee wrappers, which don't declare peanuts. Two Pinch ready meals, sold only through Tesco, were recalled on 8 October over Salmonella, and their use-by dates have passed. Ambiano hairdryers sold by Aldi were recalled over a risk of electric shock or fire, in a notice published on 19 October. None of the seven food alerts the Food Standards Agency (FSA) published from 15 to 30 October names any of the four. The newest, on 30 October, is a Walkers Variety Snacks Sharing Box whose outer box doesn't declare gluten. A recall covers only the products, sizes, dates and batch codes it lists. Check the name, the pack size and the date on the pack against the notice. If they match, do what the notice says: usually don't eat it and take it back for a refund.

What the official notices show

Food recalls in the UK are published by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) as food alerts. Recalls of other products, such as electricals, go on GOV.UK's product safety list, run by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS). We read both on 31 October 2026, looking for any notice that names Asda, Aldi, Tesco or Sainsbury's.

Each of the four is named in an official notice. Sainsbury's and Asda are named in a peanut allergy alert from 13 October, updated on 14 October. Tesco is named in a Salmonella recall from 8 October, and Aldi in an OPSS hairdryer recall published on 19 October. The FSA published seven food alerts from 15 to 30 October, and none names any of the four supermarkets. Two are for Northern Ireland only. The other five are for branded products, and their notices don't say which shops sold them.

Sainsbury's and Asda: Skinny Crunch peanut butter bars

Halo Foods Limited is recalling Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars in the 5 x 20 g pack, batch code 6238 (08:30 – 10:30), best before August 2027 (FSA alert FSA-AA-45-2026, 13 October). The notice says the bars "have been mispacked in Skinny Whip Toffee bar wrappers, which do not declare peanuts as an ingredient on the wrapper." So a bar from an affected box can look like a Skinny Whip Toffee bar. The FSA's update on 14 October says the bars "have been supplied to selected Sainsburys stores in England and Wales, and selected ASDA stores in England and Scotland."

The FSA's advice: "If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to where you bought it from for a full refund." The risk is to anyone with a peanut allergy.

Tesco: two Pinch ready meals

Greencore recalled several products on 8 October "due to the presence of Salmonella" (FSA-PRIN-48-2026). Two of them are Pinch meals, and the notice says "Pinch products are sold exclusively through Tesco". They are Pinch Pan Poppin’ Chicken Pasanda & Nutty Pilau Rice, 400g, barcode 5051873005819, and Pinch Bangin’ Butter Chicken & Nutty Pilau Rice, 400g, barcode 5051873005796. The recall covers "All dates up to 10th October". The same alert also covers three M&S products.

The use-by dates have now passed, but the advice stands for any still at home: "do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store where you purchased it where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt." The notice says the symptoms of salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. It says anyone with them should stay away from work, school or nursery until they have had no symptoms for at least 48 hours.

Aldi: Ambiano hairdryers, not food

Aldi's recall isn't food. OPSS notice 2610-0111, published on 19 October, covers Ambiano Ionic Hairdryers, model 849855, sold by Aldi. The notice says it "presents a risk of electric shock or fire" because the power cord may become damaged over time. OPSS rates the risk as high, and says consumers "should stop using it immediately and return it to their nearest Aldi store for a full refund". The barcodes to check are in our story on the Aldi hairdryer recall.

The newest food recalls name none of the four

These are the FSA's other recalls from 15 to 30 October. Each covers only the sizes, dates and batch codes listed.

Walkers Variety Snacks Sharing Box, 655g box (6 packs), batch code 107543, best before 21 November 2026 (FSA-AA-50-2026, 30 October). PepsiCo is recalling it because the outer box doesn't declare wheat (gluten); the alert covers England, Scotland and Wales. If you have an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or coeliac disease, don't eat it. The refund is through the PepsiCo Consumer Care Line on 0800274777 or contact.pepsico.com/walkers.

Arla Protein Pudding, 200g, in Chocolate (best before 11, 18 and 20 January and 6 February 2027), Salted Caramel (21, 23 and 31 January and 2 February 2027) and Vanilla Cookie (25 January 2027). These "may contain glass which makes them unsafe to eat" (FSA-PRIN-51-2026, 23 October). This one is for everyone, not only people with an allergy: return them to where you bought them for a full refund.

Emma Basic Curry Cubes Japanese Style, 200g, with best before dates of 29 December 2026; 24 February, 18 March, 12 May, 23 July, 14 September and 12 October 2027; and 26 March 2028, may contain milk that isn't on the label (FSA-AA-49-2026, 24 October). Full On Flapjacks in Bakewell, Raspberry Yoghurt, White Chocolate, Blueberry Swirl and Caramel, all pack sizes and all date codes, have soya and wheat (gluten) that aren't on the label; the Bakewell also has almonds (FSA-AA-48-2026, 21 October, England and Wales). Gilbert’s Chopped Liver, 250g and 450g, with use-by dates of 23 and 28 October and 4 and 13 November 2026, contains wheat (gluten) but is labelled gluten free (FSA-AA-46-2026, 15 October, England).

The FSA published two more alerts in the same fortnight, both for Northern Ireland only: SuperValu and Centra salmon and prawn cocktail products, and Carroll’s of Tullamore Traditional Lasagne.

How to check your cupboards

1. Match the product name and the pack size to the notice, not just the brand. A recall covers only what it lists.

2. Find the date on the pack (best before or use by) and any batch code, and compare them with the notice. If your date or code isn't listed, this notice doesn't cover it.

3. Allergy alerts matter only if someone at home has that allergy or intolerance. Check loose bars too: the Skinny Crunch peanut bars were wrapped as Skinny Whip Toffee bars. The glass and Salmonella recalls are for everyone.

4. If it matches, do what the notice says. Usually that's "do not eat it" and return it to the shop for a full refund; the Walkers refund goes through PepsiCo instead. The Pinch notice says you don't need a receipt; other notices don't say.

5. To hear about future recalls, sign up on GOV.UK for the FSA's food alerts by email. For electricals, toys and other products, check GOV.UK's product safety list. Our guide to use-by and best before dates explains which date matters for what.

The honest bit
You don't need to clear out your cupboards. Each recall lists exact products, sizes, dates and batch codes. Most of this month's are allergy alerts, which matter only if someone at home has that allergy. A product that isn't on a notice simply isn't covered by it. That doesn't mean anyone has checked it, but it isn't a reason to throw it away.

Common questions

Is there a new Asda, Aldi, Tesco or Sainsbury's recall this week?

Not in the official notices we read on 31 October 2026. The most recent notices naming them are from 8 to 19 October: Skinny Crunch peanut butter bars (Sainsbury's and Asda), two Pinch ready meals (Tesco) and Ambiano hairdryers (Aldi). The FSA's food alerts from 15 to 30 October name none of the four.

Which Walkers box is being recalled?

The Walkers Variety Snacks Sharing Box, 655g box (6 packs), batch code 107543, best before 21 November 2026 (FSA-AA-50-2026). Wheat (gluten) isn't declared on the outer box. If you have an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or coeliac disease, don't eat it, and contact the PepsiCo Consumer Care Line on 0800274777 or contact.pepsico.com/walkers for a refund.

Do I need a receipt to return a recalled product?

It depends on the notice. The Greencore notice covering the Pinch meals says "You do not need your receipt." The other notices don't mention receipts; most say to return the product for a full refund, and the Walkers refund is through PepsiCo.

Which Arla puddings are affected?

Arla Protein Pudding, 200g: Chocolate with best before dates of 11, 18 and 20 January and 6 February 2027; Salted Caramel, 21, 23 and 31 January and 2 February 2027; Vanilla Cookie, 25 January 2027. They may contain glass. Don't eat them; return them to where you bought them for a full refund.

How do I hear about food recalls?

The Food Standards Agency issues a food alert when there is a problem with food on sale, and you can sign up on GOV.UK to get the alerts by email. Shops also put up notices in store explaining what to do.
