Belkin BoostCharge 20K Power Bank review

By Tom Calder

Our verdict · Researched
3.8 / 5

A dependable, no-drama 20,000mAh bank from a trusted brand that will recharge a typical phone three or four times. Just don't expect fast charging or enough grunt to run a laptop.

What we like

  • Large 20,000mAh capacity reliably recharges a modern phone three to four times
  • Three ports (one USB-C, two USB-A) charge several devices at once, and a charging cable is included
  • Belkin's reputation and two-year warranty make it a low-risk buy

Worth knowing

  • Modest 15W maximum output is slow by 2026 standards, and that power is shared across ports when charging multiple devices
  • No high-wattage USB-C Power Delivery, so it won't meaningfully charge a laptop

Our review

Belkin's BoostCharge 20K is a plain, three-port 20,000mAh power bank with a 15W ceiling. It is slow by current standards and will not run a laptop, but it holds enough energy for several phone charges and comes from a brand with a two-year warranty, which suits a power-cut drawer.

What Belkin lists

Belkin's UK spec page for the BPB012 gives 20,000mAh, one USB-C and two USB-A ports, each rated 5V 3A (15W), with a combined maximum of 15W shared across them. The USB-C port also recharges the bank at up to 15W. In the box is a short 15cm USB-A to USB-C cable, four LEDs show charge, and the warranty is two years. It does not support USB-C Power Delivery, so phones charge at standard speed.

What CHOICE and Countryfile found

CHOICE in Australia measured about 13,972mAh of usable output, about 70% of the rated figure, which is normal once conversion losses are counted. It took about ten hours to recharge from empty and weighed 422g; Countryfile's reviewer gave just over 500g. The two figures do not agree, so allow for up to half a kilo in a bag. CHOICE rated it 77% overall and marked it down for bulk. Countryfile also noted that it can charge a device while it is itself being charged.

What that means in a power cut

Usable output of around 14,000mAh at phone voltage is enough to recharge most phones a few times, so one bank keeps one person in contact for several days of a long outage if they are careful: lower the screen brightness, turn off what you do not need, and charge in short bursts rather than leaving the phone on the bank all night. The 15W cap matters when more than one phone is plugged in: the power is shared, so each charges slowly. The ten-hour refill means it must be topped up while you still have mains, not when the cut starts. Our power cut preparation guide covers keeping banks charged.

Flying and safety

Belkin does not publish a watt-hour figure; 20,000mAh at the usual 3.7V cell voltage works out at about 74Wh, well under the Civil Aviation Authority's 100Wh threshold. The CAA says power banks go in hand luggage only, with a maximum of two per person, and must not be recharged on board. At home, charge it on a hard surface and see our lithium battery fire safety guide.

How it compares

On the power banks page, the Anker Power Bank 20K holds the same rated capacity but gives up to 65W from a port and recharges far faster through its built-in cable. The INIU Carry and UGREEN Nexode banks also give 45W with built-in cables. The INIU B5 is the most similar simple bank. The Anker Prime 26K is a laptop bank in a different league. The Belkin's case rests on simplicity, three ports and a known brand. Two USB-A ports remain handy for older cables, torches and radios that still charge from USB-A, which many newer banks have cut back to one.

Our verdict

A dependable, no-frills phone bank for a drawer or grab bag. Skip it if you want fast charging, a quick refill or anything for a laptop; a 45W or 65W bank of the same capacity does all three.

How long does the Belkin 20K take to recharge?

CHOICE measured about ten hours from empty through its 15W USB-C input. Charge it before you need it.

Yes, in hand luggage. At roughly 74Wh it is under the CAA's 100Wh limit; power banks must not go in checked bags and must not be recharged on board.

What warranty does Belkin give?

Belkin lists a two-year limited warranty for the BoostCharge 20K (model BPB012).
