One step up for smallholders, large extended families or a farmers'-market sideline: nearly twice the Medium's per-batch capacity for roughly 20% more money, from the same UK importer. Every caveat on the Medium applies here amplified — a bigger price, a genuinely large appliance, and even harder to justify unless you're regularly filling 8kg+ batches. Most home buyers don't; be honest with yourself before choosing this over the Medium, because the smaller model already sits idle between uses in most kitchens that have one.

Our review
Harvest Right's six-tray freeze dryer: 8.2 to 12.2kg of fresh food a batch across 0.71 square metres of tray space, with the same up-to-25-year result as the Medium. The figure that decides between the two is 1,500 watts. Harvest Right says this size draws that on average for the whole 13-to-35-hour cycle, against about 1,000 to 1,200 watts for the Medium. It suits a smallholding, a very large family or a small food business that fills every tray.
What the numbers mean
Six stainless trays of 9 by 20.5 inches, about 23 by 52cm, give 1,107 square inches of drying area, 0.71 square metres, which is 64% more than the Medium's five smaller trays. Harvest Right rates a batch at 18 to 27lb of fresh food, 8.2 to 12.2kg, and the machine at up to 5,000lb a year, about 2,270kg, which it says means four batches a week for 50 weeks. The cabinet is 21.3 by 27.5 by 31.3 inches, roughly 54 by 70 by 80cm, and weighs 143lb, about 65kg, with a 110kg shipping weight.
It ships with a 10 CFM industrial oil pump, oil and a filter, the six trays, 50 Mylar bags, 50 oxygen absorbers, an impulse sealer and a guide. Harvest Right specifies a 110V NEMA 5-15 outlet on a dedicated 15-amp circuit, and lists a 220V option.
In a British home
Harvest Right puts the Large at about 13 amps, 1,500 watts, on average through the cycle. At the Ofgem price cap unit rate of 26.32p per kWh for October to December 2026 that is about 39p an hour: 36kWh for a 24-hour cycle and about 53kWh for a 35-hour one, before transformer losses.
Harvest Right's site names no UK dealer. Machines here come through specialist sellers, often on pre-order, and UK sellers list them for standard UK 230V mains; Harvest Right lists a 220V version of each size. A 110V US import would need a step-down transformer able to carry 1.5kW for the whole cycle, and Harvest Right's dedicated-circuit requirement is worth putting to an electrician rather than assuming a kitchen ring will do. Its standard warranty terms exclude extension cords. Harvest Right wants a room at 50 to 75°F, about 10 to 24°C, and voids the warranty above 105°F, which rules out hot outbuildings in summer and makes a cold garage in winter a compromise.
How it compares
The Harvest Right Medium holds 4.5 to 6.8kg a batch on five trays, draws about 1,000 to 1,200 watts on average and, by Harvest Right's FAQ, also wants a dedicated 15-amp circuit; for most households it is the sensible version of the same idea. The hot-air machines on our dehydrator page are the other route: the Excalibur 9-tray at 600 watts, about 16p an hour at the same cap rate, and the Andrew James 6-tray at 550 watts. Neither can freeze-dry meals or dairy or give a 25-year result.
Living with it
Cycle times are the same as the Medium's, 13 to 35 hours for most foods, so the extra capacity comes from bigger batches rather than faster ones. The oil pump needs a change every 20 to 30 batches; an oil-free pump is sold as an upgrade. Harvest Right publishes no noise figure for the home sizes. At 65kg it is a two-person move and stays where it lands.
Harvest Right's warranty page gives UK and EU purchases from July 2026 a two-year full warranty from the ship date, against one year in full plus two further years on the sealed refrigeration system for US buyers, and the UK terms exclude improper installation, unreliable electricity and changes made without Harvest Right's written approval. Its own returns run 30 days from shipping, less shipping costs and a 15% restocking fee; an importer's terms will differ, so read them before paying a deposit.
Our verdict
Buy it if you regularly have more than 8kg of produce, meat or cooked meals ready to process at once, from a smallholding, a market stall or a very large household, and you can give it a cool room and a dedicated circuit. If a batch that size would mean waiting a week to fill the trays, buy the Medium, because an idle freeze dryer is the dearest appliance in the house. Preparing for food shortages makes the case for storing food without this level of spend.
