Our review
ReadyWise's 60-serving bucket is half its best-known 120-serving store: 15 four-serving pouches, 13 recipes and 12,440 calories, with an up-to-25-year shelf life. The calorie total is the number to plan around, because it makes this roughly six days of food for one adult rather than a family's week.
What is in the bucket
ReadyWise UK lists 60 servings in 15 pouches of four, across 13 recipes: cheesy lasagna, creamy pasta (two pouches), pasta alfredo, chili mac, chicken noodle soup, savory stroganoff (two pouches), hearty tortilla soup, potato pot pie, teriyaki and rice, baked potato casserole, tomato basil soup, southwest beans and rice, and cheesy macaroni. It is lunch and dinner only, with no breakfasts. The bucket has carry handles and ReadyWise gives the total weight as 3.36kg.
What the numbers mean
The total of 12,440 calories works out at about 207 calories a serving. ReadyWise's page calls it six days of food at 1,800 calories a day; at 2,000 calories, a typical adult figure, it is a little over six days for one person, or about a day and a half for four. That is a useful reserve, but a serving is a light meal, so plan to add tinned protein, fruit and vegetables. A pouch holds four servings and ReadyWise gives no keeping time for an opened one, so the format suits a household eating together better than one person taking a serving at a time.
Every serving needs water. ReadyWise puts it at about 60 cups for the bucket, a cup per serving, which is roughly 14 litres at 240ml a cup, on top of the three litres per person per day the government suggests for drinking. Hot water speeds rehydration, and ReadyWise says many of its meals will rehydrate with water at any temperature, so a cold meal is possible without a hob. Our water storage guide helps with the extra.
Storage and allergens
The 25 years is an up-to figure. ReadyWise asks for a cool, dry place and suggests 50 to 55 degrees, a US Fahrenheit figure equal to about 10 to 13°C. Lofts and garages that heat up in summer will shorten the life. The food is in sealed Mylar pouches, packed in a polyethylene bucket. ReadyWise's FAQ names milk, soy and wheat as the common allergens in its range; the pouch label is the authority. ReadyWise showed the bucket as sold out when we checked.
How it compares
On our emergency food comparison the 120-serving bucket has the same recipes at 24,360 calories, roughly twelve adult-days. The Wayfayrer pouch needs no water but lasts three years, not 25. Rotated supermarket tins feed a household for less and need only a tin opener.
Our verdict
Buy it if you want a compact food reserve that sits in a cupboard for years without rotation, and you will store the water to go with it. Skip it if you would eat tinned food anyway, or need breakfasts. Our 25-year food guide explains what the long shelf life buys you.

Who shouldn't buy this
Don't buy it if you'd rotate supermarket tins through normal meals: they cost far less and need no added water.

How much water does the ReadyWise 60-serving bucket need?
ReadyWise says about 60 cups, one per serving, which is roughly 14 litres. Store that in addition to drinking water.
How should ReadyWise food be stored?
In a cool, dry place. ReadyWise suggests 50 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit, about 10 to 13°C. The up-to-25-year shelf life depends on storage, so avoid hot lofts and garages.
