Ring Heavy Duty Professional Air Compressor 12V review

Drivers, van/4x4 owners and caravanners who want a robust compressor that lives in the boot for real use, not just an emergency top-up

By Tom Calder

Our verdict
4.0 / 5

A properly built compressor rather than a glovebox toy — metal body, brass nozzle and a 7m airline that reaches every tyre from one battery connection. The trade-off is that it clips straight to the battery terminals, so you'll need bonnet access rather than a quick plug into the 12V socket.

As an Amazon Associate, PreparedBritain earns from qualifying purchases. We may earn a commission when you buy, or a fee when you request a quote, through our links — it never affects what we recommend. Amazon prices come from Amazon's own product data and show the date and time they were retrieved. Prices at other retailers are checked by us, less often. Prices and stock can change at any time, so always check the retailer's price before you buy.

What we like
  • Metal body and brass nozzle feel built to last, not disposable
  • Quick on the tyre size Ring tested it on — 35psi in under 90 seconds for a 13" tyre (allow longer on bigger 17-18" wheels)
  • 7m airline plus battery-clamp power means you can reach all four corners of a van or 4x4 without moving the vehicle
Worth knowing
  • Battery-clamp only connection means popping the bonnet, not a quick socket plug-in
  • Bulkier and heavier than pocket-sized inflators, so it's a boot item, not a glovebox one

Who shouldn't buy this

If you want a lightweight inflator for occasional top-ups via the 12V socket without opening the bonnet, a compact socket-plug inflator will suit you better than this one.
