A capable DIY kit that covers two entry points and general motion out of the box, with a loud local siren included at the kit price — but full app control, alerts and monitoring sit behind an optional Pro Premium plan (up to £360/year), making this more of a step-up pick once that's budgeted for than the cheapest way into home security. It won't reduce insurance premiums either, since SimpliSafe UK is self-install and not an NSI/SSAIB-graded system.

Our review
SimpliSafe's UK starter: a mains base station with a built-in siren and 24-hour battery, a battery keypad, two entry sensors and two motion sensors, self-fitted. What decides whether it suits you is how much of the system you intend to use: the siren and keypad are yours outright, while the fuller app and any monitoring are monthly plans. It fits a renter or first-time buyer who may want monitoring later.
What is in the box, and what the numbers mean
The base station is brains and sounder: SimpliSafe's UK pages quote a 95dB siren, its Gen 3 installation guide 100 dB. The same guide says the base signals over Wi-Fi with built-in network backup and alerts SimpliSafe's monitoring centre only on a monitoring plan; its backup battery, SimpliSafe says, lasts a full 24 hours.
Each entry sensor runs on one CR2032 cell that SimpliSafe says lasts up to five years, depending on placement and use. The motion sensor covers a 90-degree view out to 35 feet (about 10.7 metres) and, on SimpliSafe's UK page, tells people from pets up to 27 kg when mounted about six feet (1.8 metres) up. The keypad runs on four AA cells, which SimpliSafe expects to last six to eight months.
In a British home
Two entry sensors cover two doors, or a door and the window a burglar would pick; the motion sensors then watch the hall and the main room. That is a two-bedroom flat or a small terrace, and further sensors are bought singly. Sensors mount with adhesive strips; where one guards a door you depend on, use screws if your tenancy allows.
The base station wants a central spot with a socket, and because the siren lives inside it, a base in a cupboard is a quiet alarm. Its 24-hour battery keeps the siren and keypad working through a power cut. Without a monitoring plan, anything that reaches your phone travels over your broadband, so it stops when the router goes dark unless you add a router battery.
What works free, and what the plans add
SimpliSafe's UK support pages set out app features in three columns. Basic App Control gives arming and disarming from the phone, push alerts for alarms and warnings, and seven days of history, with no camera recordings. Pro Standard extends history to 30 days and adds recordings for up to ten cameras. Pro Premium adds general-activity notifications and unlimited history. The page does not say which tier comes with no plan, so ask before relying on phone alerts without one.
SimpliSafe's UK site advertises professional monitoring from 66p a day with no contract and the first month free, and names Pro Premium as the plan on which alarms reach the monitoring centre, with Securitas guard response; our comparison table lists Pro Premium at £29.99 a month, up to £360 a year. Without a plan, SimpliSafe says, the system still works as a siren, but it cannot call you about a break-in or send anyone.
How it compares
The Ring Alarm Pack M also covers two openings and two rooms but adds an outdoor siren rated at over 100 dB at a metre and starts its plans at £4.99 a month. The Yale IA-320 Sync kit swaps the second entry sensor for an external siren box rated at 104dB, charges nothing monthly ever, and has no cellular or monitoring option at any price. SimpliSafe's edge is professional monitoring you can switch on month to month, with a Securitas guard call-out.
Insurance and the police
The National Police Chiefs' Council policy governing police response to alarms in England, Wales and Northern Ireland covers remotely monitored systems installed and monitored by NSI- or SSAIB-certified companies. SimpliSafe's UK system is self-installed and sits outside it on any plan; Pro Premium adds monitoring and a Securitas guard, which is not the same thing as a police-registered alarm. Answer insurance questions literally: a self-fitted kit, monitored or not.
Our verdict
Buy it if you rent or have a small home, want an alarm you can fit with no drilling, and like switching monitoring on and off month to month. Do not buy it as the cheapest way into a smart alarm, because the plan is where the value sits, and do not buy it for a large house without pricing extra sensors. If a graded, police-attended alarm is the requirement, this is the wrong category.

Don't buy this expecting an insurance premium reduction, or if you need guaranteed 24/7 monitored response from day one without budgeting for the optional subscription.

Does the SimpliSafe 7 Piece system work without a subscription?
Yes, as a siren alarm: SimpliSafe says that without a plan the system still sounds, but it cannot call you or send help. Monitoring, Securitas guard response and camera recordings are plan features, advertised from 66p a day, with Pro Premium at £29.99 a month in our comparison.
How loud is the SimpliSafe base station siren?
SimpliSafe's UK product pages say 95dB and its Gen 3 installation guide says 100 dB. The sounder is inside the base, so its position decides how far the alarm carries; SimpliSafe sells a separate wireless siren.
Will the SimpliSafe motion sensor ignore my dog?
SimpliSafe's UK motion sensor page says it tells people from pets up to 27 kg, covers a 90-degree view out to 35 feet (about 10.7 metres), and should be mounted about six feet up. A heavier dog, or a cat on a shelf at sensor height, can still trigger it.
How long do SimpliSafe entry sensor batteries last?
Each takes one CR2032 cell. SimpliSafe says up to five years depending on placement and use, so a busy front door will want a new cell sooner. SimpliSafe's support pages say a sensor showing as offline in the app may need its battery replaced.
