Electric blanket and heated throw recalls and safety notices

These are product safety notices for electric blankets, heated throws, hot water bottles and hand warmers published by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) on GOV.UK. Each entry repeats the notice's details as published, with a link to the original.

PreparedBritain is independent of OPSS and GOV.UK. This is not an official government page.

Not every notice here is a recall. Each entry shows the measure OPSS recorded, such as "Recall of the product from end users" or "Import rejected at border".

Not every recall is listed here. We only include notices OPSS has published on GOV.UK, and manufacturers can announce recalls themselves. If your product isn't listed, that doesn't mean it has been checked: look on the manufacturer's website, using the model number on the product's label.

This page doesn't cover heated pet mats, heating pads, sauna blankets or heated clothing. This page covers notices published for the UK by OPSS. It doesn't include recalls announced in other countries.

Common questions

What's the difference between a product recall, a product safety report and a product safety alert?

GOV.UK uses three alert types. It says product recalls "are for specific products that have been sold in the UK and may require you to act to receive a free replacement, repair or refund from the manufacturer or a retailer". Product safety reports "are for specific products found in the UK where corrective measures other than a recall have either been ordered by an authority or are being undertaken by a business". Product safety alerts "highlight product categories or sectors in the UK with risks of serious injury or fatality and where immediate steps are requested by OPSS from businesses, authorities and possibly consumers". Each entry here shows the alert type its notice was given, and the measure OPSS recorded.

What should I do if my product is listed?

Follow what that notice says to do. Its corrective action is in the notice on GOV.UK, and our pages quote it word for word. Some notices here record only a border rejection or destruction and give no instructions for owners. GOV.UK also says: "You may be entitled to a refund, a replacement, or a repair if there is a safety issue with a product you own."

Why isn't my product listed?

Not every recall is listed here. We only include notices OPSS has published on GOV.UK, and manufacturers can announce recalls themselves. If your product isn't listed, that doesn't mean it has been checked: look on the manufacturer's website, using the model number on the product's label.

How do I report a product I think is unsafe?

In England and Wales, contact the Citizens Advice consumer helpline. In Scotland, contact the Advice Direct Scotland consumer helpline, and in Northern Ireland, your local district council. Your report may be passed to your local Trading Standards Service, or the Environmental Health Service in Northern Ireland, and trading standards can escalate product safety matters to OPSS. Some products are the responsibility of other agencies: food (the Food Standards Agency), medicines and medical devices (the MHRA), workplace products (the HSE), and vehicles and vehicle parts (the DVSA).
