Heater recalls and safety notices

These are product safety notices for portable heaters, including electric fan, convector, oil-filled, panel and infrared heaters, portable gas fires and portable diesel air heaters published by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) on GOV.UK. Each entry repeats the notice's details as published, with a link to the original.

PreparedBritain is independent of OPSS and GOV.UK. This is not an official government page.

Not every notice here is a recall. Each entry shows the measure OPSS recorded, such as "Recall of the product from end users" or "Import rejected at border".

Not every recall is listed here. We only include notices OPSS has published on GOV.UK, and manufacturers can announce recalls themselves. If your product isn't listed, that doesn't mean it has been checked: look on the manufacturer's website, using the model number on the product's label.

This page doesn't cover water heaters, heated towel rails, heated airers, wax heaters, aquarium or pool heaters, mug warmers or heaters made for vehicles. This page covers notices published for the UK by OPSS. It doesn't include recalls announced in other countries.

The product presents a serious risk of fire as the overheat protection device was not fixed, and would not function when required. This could cause the product to overheat and ignite under fault conditions. The plug also had pins with a distinct step between the sleeve and the metal parts which could cause damage to the socket and undue wear and tear to the sleeve over time. Additionally, the fuse did not contain any ballast, which is required for the proper functioning of the fuse under fault conditions, thereby presenting a risk of fire. The product also required improvements to marking, labelling and documentation. The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 or the Plugs & Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994.

The product presents a serious risk of fire as the internal and external build quality is poor. Externally, it was found that the grill cover over the heater matrix could be removed by hand and the buttons could be pushed into the product. The buttons on the front panel were recessed and were often lower than the surrounding case. The internal build quality was also found to have issues, with one connector not being used and wires being soldered directly to the PCB, with no secondary form of fixing. The plug face did not meet the dimensional requirements of BS 1363 because the live and neutral pins were too close together. The edge of the live and neutral pins were less than the required 9.5mm to the edge of the plug face. This means that the plug may not make proper contact with the socket, which could result in the socket overheating and potentially catching fire. Also, the earth pin was sleeved, which is not permitted. The product was also missing some of the required documentation and markings. The product does not comply with The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.

Common questions

What's the difference between a product recall, a product safety report and a product safety alert?

GOV.UK uses three alert types. It says product recalls "are for specific products that have been sold in the UK and may require you to act to receive a free replacement, repair or refund from the manufacturer or a retailer". Product safety reports "are for specific products found in the UK where corrective measures other than a recall have either been ordered by an authority or are being undertaken by a business". Product safety alerts "highlight product categories or sectors in the UK with risks of serious injury or fatality and where immediate steps are requested by OPSS from businesses, authorities and possibly consumers". Each entry here shows the alert type its notice was given, and the measure OPSS recorded.

Source: GOV.UK: Product Recalls and Alerts

What should I do if my product is listed?

Follow what that notice says to do. Its corrective action is in the notice on GOV.UK, and our pages quote it word for word. Some notices here record only a border rejection or destruction and give no instructions for owners. GOV.UK also says: "You may be entitled to a refund, a replacement, or a repair if there is a safety issue with a product you own."

Source: GOV.UK: Consumer products: reporting product safety issues

Why isn't my product listed?

Not every recall is listed here. We only include notices OPSS has published on GOV.UK, and manufacturers can announce recalls themselves. If your product isn't listed, that doesn't mean it has been checked: look on the manufacturer's website, using the model number on the product's label.

Source: OPSS: Product Safety Database report 2025 to 2026

How do I report a product I think is unsafe?

In England and Wales, contact the Citizens Advice consumer helpline. In Scotland, contact the Advice Direct Scotland consumer helpline, and in Northern Ireland, your local district council. Your report may be passed to your local Trading Standards Service, or the Environmental Health Service in Northern Ireland, and trading standards can escalate product safety matters to OPSS. Some products are the responsibility of other agencies: food (the Food Standards Agency), medicines and medical devices (the MHRA), workplace products (the HSE), and vehicles and vehicle parts (the DVSA).

What's the Citizens Advice consumer helpline number?

0808 223 1133. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and closed on bank holidays. Calls from mobiles and landlines are free. For a Welsh-speaking adviser, call 0808 223 1144.
