BLUETTI Handsfree 1 review
BLUETTI Handsfree 1 Portable Backpack Power (42L)
By Tom Calder
A slim 268.8Wh power module that slides into a 42-litre backpack, so you carry your power instead of lugging a box, with the ports reachable from the side pockets. It runs 300W from its one mains socket and charges laptops from two 100W USB-C ports, and the module also works on its own. The backpack is splash-resistant with a rain cover, but the module isn't waterproof. One check before ordering: the UK listing doesn't say which socket type it has.

Our review
The Handsfree 1 turns a 268.8Wh battery into something you wear: a slim 5kg power module that sits in the back panel of BLUETTI's 42-litre rucksack, with the sockets reachable from the outside. It is built for a day out with cameras, drones and laptops rather than for a power cut, and a good share of what you pay for is the rucksack.
What it is
The module holds 268.8Wh of lithium iron phosphate cells, which BLUETTI rates at 4,000-plus cycles to 80% capacity, and feeds a single mains socket at 300W, two 100W USB-C ports and two USB-A ports sharing 15W. Power Lifting raises the ceiling to 450W for resistive loads only. At 286.5 × 95 × 280mm it is about the thickness of a hardback, and BLUETTI gives the weight as about 5kg, a figure for the module alone; the rucksack's own weight is not published. The pack has MOLLE webbing, a 30kg load rating and a rain cover, and the module also works out of the bag as an ordinary small power station.
On the road and at home
The honest use case is a long day away from sockets. BLUETTI says it will fully charge up to three drone batteries in one go, and each USB-C port gives up to 100W, more than the 30W to 70W a laptop in use draws on our data. On the method our guides use (capacity × 0.9 depth of discharge × 0.85 inverter efficiency, divided by the load plus the unit's own 10W), about 206Wh reaches the sockets: a laptop in use for 2.5 to 5 hours, a phone on charge for 3.5 to 14 hours. BLUETTI's manual uses 6W for this model's own draw and gives 4.4 hours for a 40W load.
In a power cut at home it covers the small things: a broadband router for 8.5 to 11 hours, a CPAP without humidifier for 7 to 15 hours, LED lamps for most of a night. A fridge-freezer is possible for 3.5 to 9.5 hours, but the single 300W socket and the lack of a surge rating make it a poor fit. A kettle is out of the question.
How it compares
BLUETTI's own Handsfree 2 is the same idea at 512Wh and 700W with a 60-litre pack and 350W of solar input, at 7.5kg for the module, for people who need a second day. For the house, the box-shaped Elite 30 V2 carries a similar 288Wh in 4.3kg, with 600W of output, a 140W USB-C port, a 12V car socket and a 10ms UPS, for far less. Our BLUETTI comparison page lines the range up.
Living with it
Charging is 300W from the mains: 80% in 45 minutes and full in about 1.5 hours in Turbo mode, with Standard at two hours and Silent at 3.5 hours. Solar input is 200W at 12 to 28V, which BLUETTI says fills it in 1.5 hours, and a 100W panel takes 3.5 hours. A full charge draws at least 0.27kWh, roughly 7p a full charge at the October to December 2026 price cap unit rate of 26.32p per kWh. The app is Bluetooth. BLUETTI publishes no noise figure. Warranty is five years on BLUETTI UK's store, with a UK phone line. BLUETTI's manual lists a UK version, but the UK listing does not name the socket, so check before ordering.
Safety and weather
The module is not waterproof; BLUETTI says the rucksack is splash-resistant with a rain cover for heavier rain, and advises against long exposure. Charge between 0°C and 40°C, store at 40% to 60% away from anything flammable, and cycle it every three months. Our lithium battery guide covers the rest.
Our verdict
Buy it if you walk, fish, film or fly drones for whole days and the rucksack is something you would carry anyway. Do not buy it as a power-cut battery: the Elite 30 V2 does that job for a fraction of the money, and the Handsfree 1's single 300W socket limits it to the small stuff.

Who shouldn't buy this
Don't buy it if it'll live at home for power cuts: the box-shaped Elite 30 V2 has similar capacity for much less.
