BLUETTI Handsfree 2 review
BLUETTI Handsfree 2 Portable Backpack Power (60L)
By Tom Calder
The bigger backpack: a 512Wh module in a 60-litre pack, with 700W from its mains socket and a power-lifting mode for resistive loads up to 1,200W. It takes up to 350W of solar, so a day in the sun can refill it, and the module works out of the pack too. As with the Handsfree 1, only the backpack is splash-resistant, and the UK listing doesn't say which socket type it has, so check before you order.

Our review
A 512Wh power module that clips into a 60-litre rucksack, with one mains socket good for 700W, two 100W USB-C ports and 350W of solar input. The thing to understand is that it is a camera, drone and laptop battery for people on foot, not a household backup unit: with a 7.5kg power module before you pack anything else, carrying is what it does well. It suits long days away from a plug, not a kitchen in a power cut.
What the numbers mean
512Wh is half a unit of electricity, of which about 390Wh reaches your devices by the site's planning method (90% depth of discharge, 85% inverter efficiency, 10W self-consumption). 700W from the single socket runs a laptop charger, camera chargers, a drone hub or a small blender; Power Lifting mode accepts purely resistive loads of 700 to 1,200W such as a travel kettle, but the manual says real output stays at 700W, so they run slowly. BLUETTI rates the LFP cells at 4,000 cycles to 80%. The module alone is 305 by 105 by 385mm; BLUETTI does not publish the weight of the packed bag, and its UK listing gives the BluePack a 30kg load rating with MOLLE webbing.
On the road and in a power cut
On foot this is the right size: about six full charges of a 60Wh laptop battery, two 100W USB-C ports feeding two devices at full speed, and BLUETTI says it fills three drone batteries in a sitting. At home the sums are small. By our runtime method a fridge-freezer lasts 6.5 to 18 hours, a router 16 to 21 hours, a CPAP on blower alone 13 to 28 hours (4.5 to 13 hours with a heated humidifier), a laptop 5 to 10 hours and a television 1.5 to 9 hours. Router, two LED bulbs, a charging phone and a laptop together give 2.5 to 6 hours. The UPS switchover is 20ms and BLUETTI says it is not for servers or medical kit. A kettle is out.
How it compares
The BLUETTI Handsfree 1 is the smaller sibling: 268.8Wh and 300W in a 42-litre pack, 5kg for the module, 200W of solar. The BLUETTI AC70 is the box-shaped alternative for less money: 768Wh and 1,000W at 10.2kg, two sockets, a car socket and 500W of solar. For a bag-sized unit without the bag, the BLUETTI Elite 30 V2 is 288Wh and 600W at 4.3kg. The range is on BLUETTI power stations.
Living with it
The manual gives three mains modes: Standard at 350W fills it in two hours, Turbo at 600W reaches 80% in 45 minutes and full in 80, and Silent at 150W takes 4.5 hours. Solar is 12 to 45V at up to 350W, about two hours in good sun; the MC4-to-XT60 cable is in the box. A car socket gives 96W at 12V or 192W at 24V, so allow five hours or more of driving at 12V and about three at 24V. A full charge costs about 13p at the Ofgem price cap rate of 26.32p per kWh for October to December 2026, before losses. The app connects by Bluetooth. ECO mode, on by default, cuts outputs after a spell of low draw, so switch it off for anything under 10W. The box includes the solar cable, a grounding screw and the BP2 backpack. Five-year warranty; BLUETTI UK takes unused returns within 30 days.
Weather and safety
The module is not waterproof. BLUETTI's FAQ says the BluePack has splash-resistant fabric, waterproof zips and a rain cover good for medium to heavy rain but not for long exposure, and the manual warns against seawater. Charge from 0°C to 40°C, discharge from -20°C to 40°C, store it at 40 to 60% and cycle it fully every three months, and keep a dry powder extinguisher in mind. Flying is off the table: the CAA allows lithium batteries up to 160Wh in cabin baggage with airline approval, and this is 512Wh. More in our lithium battery fire safety guide.
Our verdict
Buy it if you walk to where you work, whether that is a hide, a crag or a festival pitch, and you are tired of carrying a box in one hand. Skip it for the home: a 512Wh unit with one socket and no car port is poor value as a power-cut battery, and the AC70 or the Elite 100 V2 do that job properly. Check with BLUETTI UK which socket type ships before you order, because the listing does not say.

Who shouldn't buy this
Don't buy it if you'll mostly use it at home or in the car: a box-shaped unit like the AC70 gives more capacity per pound.

Questions
Is the BLUETTI Handsfree 2 waterproof?
The power module is not. BLUETTI says the backpack's fabric is splash-resistant, the zips are waterproof and a rain cover copes with medium to heavy rain, but it should not sit in rain for long.
How long does the Handsfree 2 take to charge?
BLUETTI's manual says two hours in Standard mode at 350W, 80% in 45 minutes and full in 80 minutes in Turbo at 600W, 4.5 hours in Silent mode and about two hours from 350W of solar. A 12V car socket supplies at most 96W, so allow five hours or more from one.
Can the Handsfree 2 run a fridge-freezer?
It can, for 6.5 to 18 hours by the site's runtime method, but it is an odd choice: one socket, 512Wh and a backpack you would have to unpack. A box-shaped 1kWh unit does the fridge far better.
Can you take the Handsfree 2 on a plane?
No. The CAA permits lithium batteries up to 100Wh freely and up to 160Wh with airline approval, in the cabin only. The Handsfree 2's module is 512Wh.
