BLUETTI AC70 review

BLUETTI AC70 Portable Power Station

By Tom Calder

Our verdict · Researched
3.8 / 5

The middle of BLUETTI's older AC range: 768Wh and 1,000W, with 1,500W of surge for a fridge compressor's start, and a power-lifting mode that runs resistive appliances such as heaters rated up to 2,000W at reduced power. It reaches 80% from the mains in 45 minutes and can be topped up from BLUETTI's B80, B230 or B300 batteries. The catch is the price: at £419 on BLUETTI's store on 10 October 2026 it cost more than the Elite 100 V2 at £399, which has a third more capacity and a faster 10ms switchover.

What we like

  • 1,500W surge for a fridge's start
  • 80% in 45 minutes from the mains
  • Add-on batteries extend it

Worth knowing

  • Dearer than the bigger Elite 100 V2
  • 20ms UPS switchover, not 10ms
  • Add-ons work in power-bank mode only

Our review

BLUETTI's AC70 is a 768Wh, 1,000W power station from the generation before the Elite range: a 10kg box that keeps a fridge-freezer, router and phones going overnight and refills from the mains in well under two hours. Its real rival is BLUETTI's own newer Elite 100 V2, which is the better buy whenever the two are close in price.

What 768Wh and 1,000W mean at home

768Wh is the size of the tank: a little over three-quarters of a kilowatt-hour, close to what a modern fridge-freezer uses in a day. 1,000W is the width of the pipe, the most the two UK sockets can supply between them, with a 1,500W surge allowance for the instant a compressor starts. A separate Power Lifting mode lets resistive heating appliances rated up to 2,000W run at reduced power, but BLUETTI warns against air conditioners and washing machines, whose motors and compressors surge too hard.

The battery is lithium iron phosphate, which BLUETTI rates at 3,000-plus cycles before it drops to 80% of its original capacity. Alongside the two mains sockets are two 100W USB-C ports, two USB-A ports and a 12V car socket.

In a UK power cut

Using the method our power station guides use (capacity × 0.9 depth of discharge × 0.85 inverter efficiency, divided by the load plus the unit's own 10W draw), the AC70 has about 588Wh to give. That is a fridge-freezer for 9.5 to 27 hours, a broadband router for 24 to 32 hours, a CPAP without its humidifier for 20 to 42 hours (7 to 19 with it on), a laptop for 7.5 to 15 hours and a TV for 2.5 to 14 hours. BLUETTI's own manual assumes 15W of self-consumption and gives 10.7 hours for a 40W fridge, so plan on the lower end.

A kettle is the thing it cannot do. BLUETTI lists kettles as Power Lifting loads, but the mode stops at 2,000W and most UK kettles are rated 2.2kW to 3kW, so a low-wattage travel kettle or a gas hob is the answer. The 20ms UPS switchover is fine for a fridge, router or lamps, but BLUETTI's manual excludes kit that needs a high-performance UPS, such as servers and medical equipment. Our fridge-freezer guide and CPAP guide work through the sums.

How it compares with the Elite 100 V2 and RIVER 2 Pro

The awkward comparison is inside BLUETTI's range. The Elite 100 V2 carries 1,024Wh and 1,800W in a box of almost the same size, weighs 11.5kg against 10.2kg, switches over in 10ms rather than 20ms, accepts 1,000W of solar against 500W and is rated for 4,000-plus cycles. When the two are close in price, the Elite wins. The AC70's reply is that it can be refilled from a B80, B230 or B300 in power-bank mode, where the Elite 100 V2 only takes the B80.

Against EcoFlow's RIVER 2 Pro, the other 768Wh unit on our site, the AC70 has 200W more output and more than twice the solar input, but a slightly lower surge rating (1,500W against 1,600W), weighs 2.4kg more and lacks Wi-Fi. Both sit on the BLUETTI comparison page; our brand guide covers the rest.

Living with it

From the mains, BLUETTI's UK page gives 80% in 45 minutes and a full charge in 1.3 to 1.6 hours in Turbo mode, which is switched on in the app. The manual adds Standard at about two hours and Silent at about four, the latter rated at 45dB. A full charge draws at least 0.77kWh, roughly 20p a full charge at the October to December 2026 price cap unit rate of 26.32p per kWh, before charging losses.

Solar input is 500W at 12 to 58V, and BLUETTI quotes 2.8 to 3.3 hours in good sun. The app is Bluetooth only, so you check it from the same room. BLUETTI UK gives a five-year warranty, refunds the difference if its own price drops within 30 days of purchase, and has a UK phone line. It is not waterproof.

Safety and storage

BLUETTI's manual asks for charging between 0°C and 40°C, so an unheated garage is fine for use but not for recharging in a cold snap. For storage, charge to 40% to 60%, keep it cool and dry away from anything flammable, leave the fan openings clear, and cycle it fully every three months. Our lithium battery guide covers the household side.

Our verdict

At the right price the AC70 is a dependable overnight backup for a fridge, router and phones, with quick charging and a long-life battery. Check the Elite 100 V2 first: if it costs the same or less, it is the better unit in almost every way. If you own BLUETTI's B-series batteries, or find the AC70 well under the Elite, it still earns its place.

Who shouldn't buy this

Don't buy it if the Elite 100 V2 is the same price or less: it has a third more capacity and a faster switchover.

Questions

Can the BLUETTI AC70 run a fridge-freezer overnight?

Yes. On our planning method a fridge-freezer averaging 12W to 51W runs for 9.5 to 27 hours from 768Wh, and the 1,500W surge rating covers the compressor starting. Keep the door shut and expect the lower figure.

How long does the AC70 take to charge?

BLUETTI quotes 80% in 45 minutes and a full charge in 1.3 to 1.6 hours in Turbo mode, about two hours in Standard and about four in Silent. Turbo is enabled in the Bluetooth app.

Can the AC70 boil a kettle?

Not a normal one. Power Lifting handles resistive loads up to 2,000W and most UK kettles are rated 2.2kW to 3kW. A travel kettle rated under 1,000W runs from the standard output.

How loud is the AC70?

BLUETTI publishes one figure, 45dB in Silent charging mode. It gives no number for Turbo charging or for running appliances, when the fan works harder.
