EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro review

EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro Portable Power Station

By Tom Calder

Our verdict · Researched
3.9 / 5

The RIVER 2 Pro is a 768Wh unit with 800W of output, 1,600W under X-Boost, and 220W of solar input in a 7.8kg body. It is a good fit for a household that wants more than a 250Wh starter unit but not the weight of a 1kWh one. The recurring complaint from reviewers is the fan: EcoFlow's spec sheet gives noise up to 62dB when charging and discharging at high wattage, and testers describe it as intrusive at close range. Next to the 1,024Wh DELTA 3 Classic it has less capacity and no expansion, but it weighs about 4kg less.

What we like

  • 768Wh and 800W for 7.8kg, enough for a small fridge for part of a day
  • 70-minute full recharge from the mains
  • 220W of solar input

Worth knowing

  • Fan noise reported as loud during fast charging and heavy loads
  • Not expandable, and 768Wh is tight for a fridge plus a freezer
  • Older design with 3,000 rated cycles versus 4,000 on the newest EcoFlow units

Our review

The RIVER 2 Pro packs 768Wh and 800W into 7.8kg, light enough for one person to carry from room to room, and refills from the mains in 70 minutes. It will see a fridge-freezer through a night and a router through a full day. What it will not do is stay quiet when working hard, and that decides who it suits.

What the numbers mean

768Wh is the energy on board: about three-quarters of a kilowatt-hour, near what a fridge-freezer uses in a day. 800W is the ceiling across the mains sockets, with a 1,600W surge rating for compressor start-ups. X-Boost lets heating appliances rated up to 1,600W run at reduced power, which covers a hairdryer or a small fan heater but not a 2.2kW to 3kW UK kettle. The cells are lithium iron phosphate, rated by EcoFlow at 3,000 cycles to 80% capacity, which it translates as 9.6 years of use six times a week. There are also a 100W USB-C port that charges in both directions, USB-A at 12W, and a 12V socket rated at 126W.

In a UK power cut

On the method our guides use (capacity × 0.9 depth of discharge × 0.85 inverter efficiency, divided by the load plus 10W for the unit), about 588Wh reaches the sockets. A fridge-freezer averaging 12W to 51W runs for 9.5 to 27 hours, a router for 24 to 32 hours, a CPAP for 20 to 42 hours without its humidifier (7 to 19 with it), a laptop for 7.5 to 15 hours and a TV for 2.5 to 14 hours. Phones and lights barely register. EcoFlow's AC Always-On setting works as a basic UPS for a fridge or router plugged through it; the UK page gives no switchover time for this model, so do not assume it suits a desktop computer.

Where it falls short is a fridge plus a freezer plus everything else for more than a day. 768Wh with no way to add a battery means a longer cut needs solar or a bigger unit. Our sizing guide sets out how much you need.

How it compares

BLUETTI's AC70 has the same 768Wh with 1,000W of output, a 1,500W surge rating and 500W of solar input against 220W, but weighs 10.2kg to the RIVER 2 Pro's 7.8kg and has a Bluetooth-only app. Step up to EcoFlow's DELTA 3 Classic and you get 1,024Wh and 1,800W, enough for a microwave, in 12.1kg, though it drops the 12V car socket. The RIVER 2 Pro is the one to carry; the other two are the ones to run more from. Our EcoFlow comparison page lines the range up, and the brand guide explains the differences.

Living with it

EcoFlow quotes 0 to 80% in 56 minutes and a full charge in 70 minutes from the mains, 3.5 hours from a 220W panel in good sun, and nine hours from either a car socket or the USB-C port. A full charge draws at least 0.77kWh, roughly 20p a full charge at the October to December 2026 price cap unit rate of 26.32p per kWh, before charging losses. The app connects by Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, so you can check it from another room.

Noise is the known weakness. EcoFlow's own footnote says the unit can reach 62dB while charging or discharging at high power, so the bedroom is not its natural home when it is working hard. The RIVER 2 Pro carries a five-year warranty on EcoFlow's UK policy, with 30 calendar days to return a direct purchase.

Safety

EcoFlow's limits are charging between 0°C and 45°C and discharging from -10°C to 45°C, with 20°C to 30°C best for storage, so a frosty shed is not the place to recharge it. Keep the vents clear and nothing on top. Our lithium battery guide covers charging habits around the home.

Our verdict

Buy the RIVER 2 Pro if you want a genuinely portable 768Wh that one person can move around the house and charge in an hour, and you are covering a fridge, router, phones and a laptop for a night. Look elsewhere if silence matters, or if you want a fridge and a freezer kept going for more than a day.

Who shouldn't buy this

Quiet is a priority or you want to cover a fridge for more than half a day: a DELTA 3 Classic or DELTA 3 Plus has more capacity. For phones and a router alone, the RIVER 3 does the job at a lower cost.

Questions

Will the EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro run a fridge-freezer?

Yes, for 9.5 to 27 hours on our planning method, depending on the fridge's age and size, with the 1,600W surge rating covering the compressor's start. It cannot add a second battery, so a two-day cut needs solar or a larger unit.

How loud is the RIVER 2 Pro?

EcoFlow's spec footnote gives up to 62dB when charging or discharging at high power. EcoFlow gives no figure for light loads, so keep it out of the bedroom when it is charging fast or running something big.

How long does the RIVER 2 Pro take to charge?

EcoFlow quotes 56 minutes to 80% and 70 minutes to full from the mains, 3.5 hours from a 220W solar panel and nine hours from a car socket.

Can the RIVER 2 Pro boil a kettle?

X-Boost runs heating appliances rated up to 1,600W at reduced power. Most UK kettles are 2.2kW to 3kW, so use a travel kettle under 800W instead.
