The garden-scale ceiling: a thousand litres in a UK-manufactured slimline tank that fits a side return or the strip behind a garage. If you irrigate a serious vegetable plot, this is the difference between a water butt that's empty by mid-June and a reserve that carries you through a dry spell — which is exactly when it matters. A tonne of water demands respect: a flat, load-rated base (a proper slab, not gravel), and it's garden water, not drinking water, without treatment.

Our review
Enduramaxx's 1,000-litre slimline is a one-piece polyethylene tank moulded in Lincolnshire, about a metre and a third tall and three-quarters of a metre deep, that stores a tonne of roof water for the garden. The figure that governs the project is 1,190kg: the maker's weight when full, which calls for a concrete base rather than slabs on soil. It suits a vegetable plot or large garden that runs dry every summer.
What it is
The tank is rotationally moulded in one piece from Matrix Revolve N-307, a UV10-stabilised polyethylene, so there are no seams to split, and Enduramaxx says every tank is ultrasound-tested for wall thickness after moulding. Its data sheet gives 1,350mm long, 760mm wide and 1,344mm high, with four moulded lifting lugs, a 455mm screw lid on top and a 1.5-inch BSP male outlet; other outlets are available to order. Rated capacity is 1,000 litres, plus or minus 3%. Empty it weighs about 60kg, full about 1,190kg. Colours are black, dark green and blue, and Enduramaxx treats the coloured versions as bespoke, so they cannot be returned if you change your mind. One caveat: the product page gives a height of 1,300mm in its specification and a second set of dimensions, 1,650 by 670 by 1,200mm, lower down, so confirm the figures with the seller before you pour a base.
Base, filling and what a tonne of water does
The data sheet asks for a firm, flat, fully supporting base of concrete or similar, and the installation guide says reinforced concrete is best in almost all cases: a minimum of 600mm larger than the tank's dimensions and at least 102mm deep for tanks up to 2,500 litres. Lift the tank only when empty, keep any pipework flexible so the tank can expand and contract as it fills, and fill it with water once to test the installation before use. Filling comes from a downpipe diverter, which is not listed as included. Enduramaxx's own sizing method is roof footprint times annual rainfall: a millimetre of rain on a square metre of roof is a litre, so a 40-square-metre roof section draining to one downpipe collects about 400 litres from 10mm of rain. The maker suggests storing two to three months of rainfall.
In a British summer
Ten water companies had hosepipe bans in force in the week of 9 to 15 October 2026, by our hosepipe bans tracker's count from the Environment Agency's weekly report. A thousand litres is 100 full 10-litre watering cans, the difference between a butt that is empty by June and beds watered into August. How it compares
On the comparison the 4rain Slim Wall Tank holds 650 litres on a 52 by 79cm footprint but stands 2.1 metres tall, so it needs a tall downpipe and wall, and its diverter is also extra. The Harcostar 227L is a classic barrel kit, British-made from recycled plastic with stand, tap, lockable lid and rain trap included and a five-year guarantee; its round footprint needs open space. The Ward 100L slimline is the budget option for a tight corner. The Enduramaxx holds more than all three together, at well under the 4rain's height, and is the only one that arrives bare: no tap, stand or diverter in the box.
Living with it
Enduramaxx's standard warranty is two years, extended to ten when you register within 21 days of purchase; it excludes failure to follow the installation advice, rigid outlets to pumps or fittings, and misuse. Offloading is the customer's job: unless agreed beforehand, the standard delivery lorry has no means of unloading, and the maker asks you to inspect the tank for damage before accepting it. Our verdict
Buy it if you grow food or run a large garden on a water meter, have a side return or a strip beside a garage with room for the 1,350 by 760mm tank plus a larger concrete pad, and are willing to lay that pad first. Skip it for a patio or a few pots: a 100 to 230-litre butt kit does that with no base to pour. Either way, treat the base as part of the price.
