Our review
Three Hive radiator heads in one box. Each screws onto an existing thermostatic valve body and lets the Hive app give that room its own temperature and timetable. What decides the purchase is the hub: without a current Hive Hub or Hub 360 already on your router the heads do nothing, so this pack is for homes already on Hive that want to stop heating rooms nobody is in.
What it is
A smart thermostatic radiator valve head is the motorised, app-connected replacement for the numbered dial on a radiator. Hive's version is 54.9mm across and 93.9mm long including its adaptor, weighs 134g without batteries or adaptor, and talks Zigbee to the Hive Hub, which plugs into your broadband router. Hive is explicit that the original Hub 1 is not supported. Each head takes two AA alkaline batteries, supplied, and Hive says not to use lithium or rechargeable cells because they can damage it; it publishes no battery-life figure.
It needs a radiator that already has a thermostatic valve body. Hive's box list says M30, M28 and Danfoss RA adaptors come with it, while its FAQ says the two most common are included, and other adaptors are free from Hive, so check your valve pattern before relying on the box. Radiators on manual on-off valves need a heating professional to look at them first, and electric radiators are out.
In a British home
Three heads cover three rooms, which for most households means the bedrooms or the rooms that sit empty all day. Each gets its own schedule and target temperature in the Hive app, with Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri Shortcuts and IFTTT listed for voice and automation. Hive's FAQ is clear about the limit: without Hive Active Heating the valves cannot override your existing thermostat, so they can only open and close their radiator while the heating is already on; with it, the heating comes on automatically when a radiator needs heat. Calibration normally completes within 24 hours of heating use. Open-window detection, in Hive's wording, needs Hive Window Sensors bought separately, and there is a child lock and a motor Hive describes as ultra quiet with anti-stick protection.
How it compares
The tado Smart Radiator Thermostat X Starter Kit is the opposite approach: one head plus its Bridge X hub in the box, a rechargeable USB-C battery tado says lasts about a year, Matter over Thread, and an M30x1.5 fitting with six adapters. Drayton's Wiser Multi-Zone Kit 1 (2nd gen) brings a hub that runs a combi boiler over OpenTherm or relay, a room thermostat and two radiator thermostats, grows to 16 rooms and has no subscription fee. If you are already on Hive and have more rooms, the Hive TRV003 5-pack puts five Hive heads in one box with the same hub requirement. All of them are on the comparison.
Living with it
Hive puts installation at around 10 to 20 minutes per valve where a thermostatic valve body is already fitted: unscrew the old head, fit the right adaptor, hand-tighten the new one and pair it in the app. No draining, no tools. The running chore is batteries: six AA cells across the pack, replaced as the app reports them low, and Hive gives no interval to plan around. The Hive Hub pairs only Hive devices, and Hive lists no Matter support for the valve. Hive's standard warranty is one year, and joining Hive+ adds ongoing warranty on all your Hive devices. Hive's own shop sells the valve singly, so this three-pack comes through a retailer and follows that retailer's returns terms rather than Hive's 14 days from delivery.
Our verdict
Buy it if a current Hive Hub is already on your router, your radiators have numbered TRV heads, and three rooms are heated for no one most of the day. Skip it if you have no Hive kit: you would need to buy a Hive Hub as well, whereas the tado and Drayton starter kits bring their own. If you want each room to be able to switch the boiler on by itself, you also need Hive Active Heating. Radiators on manual valves need a plumber before any smart head is worth buying. Don't buy if your radiators only have plain manual on/off valves (no numbered dial), or if you're not sure of your valve body — the included M30, M28 and Danfoss RA adaptors cover most UK valves but not every one, so check before ordering. Also don't buy if you don't already have, or want, a compatible Hive Hub: the pack price assumes you do, and adding a Hub on top pushes out the payback.

Do Hive radiator valves need a Hive thermostat?
No. Hive says the valve works with or without a Hive thermostat. Without Hive Active Heating it can only adjust its radiator while the heating is already on; with it, the valve can call for heat when its room is cold.
Which Hive Hub do the radiator valves need?
A current Hive Hub or a Hub 360. Hive states the original Hub 1 does not support radiator valves. Hive recommends setting the hub up plugged into your router by Ethernet, after which it can move to Wi-Fi; only Hive devices pair with it.
Will the Hive radiator valve fit my radiator?
