Our verdict
Our verdictResearched

A well-specified, genuinely DIY direct-connect filter — push-fit install in minutes, solid NSF certification, and a filter that lasts most households close to a year. It's a sensible default pick, but it won't soften hard water or lower TDS.

Best for Renters and homeowners who want better-tasting, chlorine-free tap water fast, without drilling a tap hole or fitting a drain line.

Good
  • Push-to-connect install takes around 3 minutes, no plumber, drilling, or dedicated tap required
  • NSF/ANSI 42 (chlorine/taste/odour) and NSF/ANSI 372 (lead-free materials) certified, with a filter life of up to 12 months
  • Twist-lock cartridge swap in seconds, and replacement filters are inexpensive
Worth knowing
  • Does not reduce TDS or water hardness — no help against limescale in hard-water areas
  • Manufacturer doesn't state WRAS approval, so check your installation still satisfies UK Water Fittings Regulations (backflow protection)

Who shouldn't buy it: Skip this if you're chasing lower limescale/TDS in a hard-water area, or specifically need a WRAS-listed fitting for a landlord or building-control sign-off — look at an RO system or a WRAS-approved inline filter instead.

Waterdrop G5P500A Alkaline Mineral pH+ RO Water Filtration System

Our verdictResearched

A well-specified tankless RO unit with a genuine remineralisation stage, so it avoids the flat taste of basic RO. It's a proper install rather than a five-minute job, and worth budgeting professional fitting time to get the drain and electrical connections right.

Best for Hard-water households who want a compact, tankless under-sink RO system with alkaline remineralisation and have a spot with mains power and a drain nearby.

Good
  • 8-stage filtration plus a dedicated alkaline mineral stage that adds calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium back in, so water doesn't taste stripped
  • Tankless design saves under-sink space versus older RO systems with a storage tank
  • NSF/ANSI 58 & 372 certified filtration, and a low 2:1 waste-to-pure water ratio for an RO system
Worth knowing
  • Needs mains electricity and a drain connection, so it's a proper plumbed install (Waterdrop calls it simple DIY; allow around 30 minutes as a rough estimate, not a manufacturer-quoted time) — no manufacturer WRAS-approval claim was found, so check UK Water Fittings Regs on backflow protection with whoever fits it
  • RO systems carry an ongoing cost: pre-filter every ~6 months, membrane every ~24 months, plus continuous waste water down the drain

Who shouldn't buy it: If your local water report shows no lead pipes and your only complaint is taste or limescale, a jug or inline tap filter solves that for a fraction of the price, install effort and running cost. Worth noting too: the alkaline stage adds back a small amount of sodium alongside the other minerals — only a real consideration if you're closely managing sodium intake.

Waterdrop G5P700A
8-stage reverse osmosis plus a post-RO alkaline · CF pre-filter ~6 months, RO membrane ~24 months · 700 GPD rated output · Tankless under-sink unit, DIY-fit

Hard-water households who want compact, tankless under-sink filtration and don't mind the plumbed install.

A capable tankless RO system: the 2:1 pure-to-drain ratio wastes far less water than older RO designs, and the post-filter mineral stage puts back the calcium and magnesium that plain RO strips out, so it doesn't taste flat. It's a considered, plumbed-in purchase rather than an impulse buy — budget for annual filter changes on top of the unit price. One caveat worth weighing: it's mains-powered with no storage tank, so a power cut means no filtered water at all — pair it with a gravity-fed or manual filter if outage resilience matters to you.

Best for Hard-water households who want compact, tankless under-sink filtration and don't mind the plumbed install.

Good
  • 2:1 pure-to-drain ratio is genuinely efficient — far less wasted water than typical RO systems
  • Tankless design saves cupboard space and avoids the stale-water taste of stored-tank RO
  • 8-stage filtration with alkaline remineralisation gives better-tasting, less flat water than plain RO
Worth knowing
  • Waterdrop doesn't state WRAS approval for this model — get a plumber to confirm suitable backflow protection under the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations before installing
  • Ongoing cost: pre-filters every ~6 months and the RO membrane every ~2 years, roughly £60–£80/year on top of the unit price

Who shouldn't buy it: Skip this if you just want fresher-tasting tap water without a plumbing job — UK tap water is safe to drink, and a basic carbon jug or tap-mounted filter fixes taste, chlorine and scale complaints for a fraction of the price and hassle of a plumbed RO install.

The G3P600 is a serious piece of kit: 8-stage filtration certified by IAPMO R&T to NSF/ANSI standards, in a tankless housing that saves cupboard space, with a 2:1 pure-to-drain ratio that wastes noticeably less water than most rival RO systems. It's a proper plumbing job rather than a tap-end gadget, so budget for the space, a drain connection and a mains socket — and factor in the separate remineralisation cartridge if you want the minerals put back.

Best for Households wanting mains-fed, tankless RO filtration for taste, scale and lead-pipe peace of mind, with space under the sink for a proper plumbed install.

Good
  • Filtration certified by IAPMO R&T to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 & 58 for its listed reduction claims
  • Tankless design frees up under-sink cupboard space versus tanked RO systems
  • 2:1 waste ratio is more water-efficient than the 3:1–4:1 typical of cheaper RO units
Worth knowing
  • Needs a nearby drain connection and mains power socket — a proper install, not a quick retrofit
  • Remineralisation filter (to restore minerals RO strips out) is sold separately, adding to running cost

Who shouldn't buy it: Don't buy if you just want a simple fix for taste or limescale — this is a full plumbed system with ongoing filter costs and waste water; a jug filter or a simpler under-sink carbon block will cover most UK mains-water concerns without RO's install effort and mineral trade-offs.

A capable, keenly-priced entry point into tankless RO — noticeably improves taste and clarity, and the 2:1 pure-to-drain ratio is efficient by RO standards. It's a proper plumbed install rather than a jug swap: WRAS approval isn't stated for this unit, so fit it with the check-valve/backflow protection the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 require for any plumbed-in device — ideally via a WaterSafe-registered plumber.

Best for Households wanting a compact, tankless under-sink RO system to sort taste, hardness scale and lead-pipe reassurance (pre-1970 homes) without a bulky reservoir.

Good
  • Tankless design saves roughly 70% of the cabinet space a tanked RO system needs
  • NSF/ANSI 372 certified lead-free build, and an efficient 2:1 pure-to-drain ratio — roughly a third of the input water goes to drain, still better than most RO systems
  • Simple filter-life tracking (time or gallon-based) and a mechanical faucet included in the box
Worth knowing
  • No remineralisation stage in this base model — RO strips out calcium and magnesium as well as contaminants, leaving water tasting flat and slightly acidic; a separate remineraliser is extra cost
  • Needs a dedicated faucet hole and drain saddle, so installation is more involved than a countertop or jug filter

Who shouldn't buy it: Don't buy it if you're renting, can't drill a faucet hole or access a kitchen drain, or you want mineral-restored water without buying a separate remineraliser stage.

Our verdictResearched

A tidy, no-drilling way to get carbon-filtered water without the commitment of a full reverse-osmosis system and its own tap. It plumbs directly into the cold feed rather than through a stated WRAS-listed check valve, so we'd want a UK installer to confirm backflow protection is in place before fitting.

Best for Renters or small kitchens who want filtered water at the existing cold tap without drilling a hole for a separate faucet.

Good
  • No dedicated faucet or extra tap hole needed — connects to the existing cold feed with included fittings in roughly 3 minutes
  • Three-stage carbon filtration (sediment, granular carbon, carbon block) is NSF/ANSI 42 certified for chlorine, taste and odour reduction, with NSF/ANSI 372 covering lead-free construction materials
  • Twist-lock cartridges make filter changes tool-free, though stage life is staggered — sediment roughly every 6 months, carbon block up to 18 months
Worth knowing
  • Manufacturer's UK listing doesn't state WRAS approval or specify a built-in check valve, so backflow protection should be confirmed at install to meet UK Water Fittings Regulations
  • Flow rate isn't clearly stated by the manufacturer (their spec sheet appears to contain a typo); expect somewhere around 1 GPM, noticeably slower than the mains tap if you often fill large pans or kettles

Who shouldn't buy it: Skip this if you want a separate chilled/filtered-water tap at the sink, need out-of-the-box certified backflow protection without adding your own check valve, or fill large pots frequently — the modest flow rate will feel slow.

The honest bit: your tap water is already safe
UK tap water is tested to standards enforced by the Drinking Water Inspectorate and its counterparts in Scotland and Northern Ireland, so none of these is a health purchase. The honest reasons to buy are chlorine taste, limescale in drinking water, lead pickup in old pipework, or never carrying bottled water again. If none applies, keep your money. Within Waterdrop's range, the main trap is buying reverse osmosis when a carbon filter would do: if your only complaint is taste, the 10UA does the job without a drain, a socket or a new tap hole. The other way round, a carbon filter won't touch limescale. And the RO systems need mains power, so in a power cut they give no filtered water; they're not a resilience buy. Waterdrop doesn't state WRAS approval for these units, so any plumbed-in fitting needs the backflow protection the water fittings regulations require: factor in a competent plumber if you're not confident.

Before you buy

Decide what you want to change.

Chlorine taste and odour: a carbon filter, the 10UA or TSA. Limescale, hardness or a much broader reduction: reverse osmosis, one of the G-series. RO also strips out the calcium and magnesium that give water its taste, which is why the G5P500A and G5P700A add an alkaline remineralisation stage; the G2P600 has none, and the G3P600's remineraliser is sold separately.

Carbon, direct-connect.

The 10UA is a carbon block filter that push-fits to the cold feed and gives filtered water through your existing tap, with a filter life of up to 12 months and a rated 0.75 GPM, about 2.8 litres a minute. The TSA is a three-stage carbon unit fitted the same way, with stages changed on a staggered timetable; Waterdrop doesn't clearly state its flow rate. Neither needs drilling or power.

Reverse osmosis, tankless.

The four G-series systems are rated from 500 to 700 gallons a day and send about one litre to the drain for every two they make, a 2:1 ratio, which is efficient for RO. All four need a drain connection, a mains socket and a dedicated tap fitted at the sink. Because they're tankless, a power cut means no filtered water at all.

Running costs.

Every Waterdrop filter needs replacement cartridges. On the RO systems the pre-filter is changed every 6 to 12 months depending on model, and Waterdrop gives about 24 months for the RO membrane on the G3P600 and G5P700A; budget for these on top of the unit price before you buy.

Fitting and the law.

Any plumbed-in unit must satisfy the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 in England and Wales, and the Scottish byelaws and Northern Ireland regulations elsewhere, which require appropriate backflow protection. Waterdrop doesn't claim WRAS approval for these units, so confirm a check valve is in place, ideally with a WaterSafe-registered plumber. Renters should ask the landlord before plumbing anything in.

Common questions

Which Waterdrop under-sink filter should I buy?

For better-tasting water with the least fuss, the 10UA: it fits on the cold feed in minutes and gives filtered water through your own tap. For limescale or the broadest reduction, a reverse osmosis system; the G5P500A adds back minerals so the water doesn't taste flat. The G2P600 is the plainer RO option without remineralisation.

Do Waterdrop filters remove limescale?

The carbon filters, the 10UA and TSA, don't: carbon reduces chlorine taste and odour, not hardness. The G-series reverse osmosis systems do reduce hardness, but they need a drain, a mains socket and their own tap. If you want to protect a boiler or washing machine, that's a whole-house softener's job, not an under-sink filter's.

Do Waterdrop RO systems work in a power cut?

No. The G-series systems are tankless and mains-powered, so with no electricity there's no filtered water. Your mains supply normally keeps running in a power cut, but for resilience store bottled water, or keep a gravity filter that needs no power.

Are Waterdrop filters WRAS approved?

Waterdrop doesn't state WRAS approval for these under-sink units. That doesn't make them illegal to fit, but any plumbed-in unit must have the backflow protection the water fittings regulations require, so have a competent plumber confirm a suitable check valve is in place.

Can I fit one in a rented home?

The 10UA and TSA connect to the existing cold feed with no drilling and use your own tap, so they're the easiest to fit and remove, but ask your landlord first: it's still a change to the plumbing. The RO systems need a drain connection and a tap hole, which is a bigger job.
