How many watts does an air fryer use?

By Tom Calder · Figures checked 4 November 2026 · Costs at 26.32p per kWh (Ofgem cap, 1 October to 31 December 2026)

In short

A large dual-drawer air fryer such as Ninja’s AF300UK is rated at 2,400W, but the element cycles. Which?, testing a Morphy Richards Health Fryer, measured 0.29 to 0.54 kWh a cook, about 8p to 14p at 26.32p per kWh.

Too much for the units around 1kWh we list (1,500W to 2,000W output)
On a 2kWh power station
2.8 to 5.3 cooks (only 5 of the 6 units around 2kWh we list can supply 2,400W)

Costs use 26.32p per kWh, the Ofgem price cap's average Direct Debit electricity unit rate for 1 October to 31 December 2026. Your own rate is on your bill; on a fixed or time-of-use tariff it will differ.

How it’s used, and what that costs

Which? cooked the same food in a Morphy Richards Health Fryer and a Bosch Serie 2 built-in electric oven. Chips took 0.287 kWh in the air fryer against 0.863 kWh in the oven; a jacket potato 0.392 kWh against 1.084 kWh; and a roast chicken 0.54 kWh against 1.157 kWh. The air fryer heats a much smaller space, so it used roughly half the energy or less.

The honest bit

An air fryer saves money when it replaces the oven for a small meal. For a family-sized roast or batch bake that needs two or three air-fryer loads, the gap narrows.

In a power cut: how long a power station would run it

A 1kWh power station: too much for the units around 1kWh we list (1,500W to 2,000W output). A 2kWh power station: 2.8 to 5.3 cooks (only 5 of the 6 units around 2kWh we list can supply 2,400W). These use the same planning method as our power station pages: capacity × 90% usable depth × 85% inverter efficiency, divided by the load plus about 10W the unit uses itself (BLUETTI’s UK formula). Counts of uses leave out the unit’s own draw, so treat them as a little generous.

Output matters as much as capacity. The 7 units around 1kWh we list supply 1,500W to 2,000W continuously, and the 6 around 2kWh supply 2,200W to 3,000W, so check a unit’s rated output covers 2,400W before you rely on it.

To size one for everything you’d want to keep running, use the sizer on our power stations comparison.

Common questions

How many amps does an air fryer draw?

At the UK’s 230 volts, amps are watts divided by 230. At 2,400W, that is 10.4 amps while it runs at full power.
