Report a cut in London: call 105

London is on UK Power Networks's network (London). Dial 105 free from any phone to report a power cut or get an update, or use UK Power Networks's live power cut map. It's the network, not your energy supplier, that fixes cuts.

If someone at home relies on electricity for medical equipment, or would struggle in a cut, the free Priority Services Register gets you extra help and updates from UK Power Networks.

If your power goes off

Check whether it's just you: look at your fuse box for a tripped switch, and whether neighbours or street lights are off.
Check the list above, then call 105 if your postcode isn't on it.
Use a torch rather than candles, which fire services warn against, and keep your phone going from a charged power bank. Torches and radios compared · Power banks compared · Emergency radios compared.
Keep the fridge and freezer shut. What's safe to eat after a power cut.
Switch off sensitive electronics and anything that could be left on, and leave one light switched on so you know when power's back. Can a power cut damage appliances?
If the boiler doesn't restart when the power comes back, there are a few safe checks to try before calling an engineer. Boiler not working after a power cut.
If the cut runs long, the network may owe you compensation. Work out what you're owed.

UK Power Networks listed at least 523 new unplanned power cuts in all 33 London boroughs between 29 September and 6 November, on 39 of the 39 days.

The busiest day was 24 October, with 34 new cuts, during Storms Austen and Boelo.

On a typical day without a named storm, UK Power Networks listed 10 new cuts here.

Storms Austen and Boelo (20 October to 29 October): 220 new cuts.

For its population, London had more new cuts a day than 9 of the 99 towns we track.
