Best anti-snap door locks UK (2026): TS007 3-star euro cylinders compared
Most composite and uPVC doors in Britain lock with a euro cylinder, the barrel the key goes into. On a standard cylinder the part sticking out of the door can be broken off at the fixing point to reach the mechanism. An anti-snap cylinder is a like-for-like replacement built so that breaking the outer section does not open the door. This page compares rated cylinders sold in the UK on whether the maker names TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond for that exact model, the sizes available, and key-to-key versus thumbturn. We have not fitted or tested any; every claim is credited to the maker or a UK stockist.

Our verdictOur verdictResearched Ultion calls this its most secure lock and says it was the first to pass the 2024 Sold Secure Diamond test, adding protection against thermal and twist attacks. A UK lock retailer lists the ALPS double as TS007 3-star and Sold Secure Diamond. It is handed, so the engraved outside arrow must face out; a locksmith can fit it if you are unsure. Best for Owners who want the strictest rated option and will take care over fitting a handed cylinder. Good

Our verdictOur verdictResearched The thumbturn version of the Ultion ALPS. Ultion and a UK lock retailer both name TS007 3-star and Sold Secure Diamond for the ALPS thumbturn. The key goes outside and the turn inside, so check which way round it fits before you start. Best for A front door where you want the top-rated cylinder with an easy inside turn. Good

Our verdictOur verdictResearched A widely stocked way to close the snapping weakness in an older euro cylinder. Yale's own page says the Platinum key/key cylinder holds the TS007 3-star Kitemark and Sold Secure Diamond. This is the 50/45 length, so it suits thicker doors; measure both sides first and fit the correct side facing outside, or ask a locksmith. Best for Householders with a longer-than-average composite or uPVC door cylinder who want a mainstream, widely stocked anti-snap replacement. Good

Our verdictOur verdictResearched The same Platinum key/key design in the even 40/40 length. Yale says it holds the TS007 3-star Kitemark and Sold Secure Diamond. Check your existing cylinder's two lengths before choosing, as many doors need an uneven pair. Best for Doors that take a symmetrical 80mm cylinder, a common size on thicker composite doors. Good

Our verdictOur verdictResearched The thumbturn version of the Yale Platinum, so the inside turns by hand without a key. Yale's own thumbturn page names the TS007 3-star Kitemark and Sold Secure Diamond, and Wickes lists the same for this 35/35 nickel size. A thumbturn makes leaving quickly easier, but think about any glass near the lock. Best for Front doors where you want to lock from inside without a key, which also helps when leaving quickly. Good

Our verdictOur verdictResearched ABS Secure, the maker, says its ABS cylinders hold the TS007 3-star Kitemark and Sold Secure SS312 Diamond, and two UK lock shops list the same for the ABS double cylinder. Stockists describe a sacrificial front section, with the cam locking against the inside after a snap. The ratings are stated for the range, so this 35/35 chrome size is covered; very short 30mm sizes are not Kitemarked. Best for Householders who want a long-running 3-star anti-snap range that comes in many lengths and two finishes. Good

Our verdictOur verdictResearched VBH, which makes greenteQ, describes Orion as a TS007 3-star Kitemarked cylinder that resists snapping without needing a security handle. No other independent grade is stated. It is a lower-cost route into a 3-star cylinder; measure both sides carefully before ordering. Best for Budget-conscious households who still want the TS007 3-star mark. Good

Our verdictOur verdictResearched The thumbturn version of the greenteQ Orion. VBH, the maker, names the TS007 3-star Kitemark for the Orion range, and a UK retailer lists this thumbturn to the same standard. No other independent grade is stated. Easy to use from inside, but consider any glass near the lock. Best for Households after a rated thumbturn cylinder at a lower cost. Good

Before you buy
Lock snapping, explained calmly.
Police crime-prevention advice describes it as using force on the part of a euro cylinder that sticks out of the door, so that it breaks at its narrowest point by the fixing screw and exposes the mechanism. Because one cylinder works every locking point on a multipoint door, the cylinder is what matters. The industry answer was TS007, a British Standard shown as a Kitemark with stars: a 3-star cylinder is rated on its own, while a 1-star cylinder needs a 2-star security handle to match it. Sold Secure Diamond (SS312), endorsed by the Master Locksmiths Association, is a separate test.
Only trust a rating stated for the exact product.
Every cylinder here has the maker's page plus a UK stockist naming TS007 3-star for that model: Yale for the Platinum key/key and thumbturn, Ultion for the ALPS, ABS Secure for the Avocet ABS range and VBH for the greenteQ Orion. Yale, Ultion and ABS also name Sold Secure Diamond; Orion states the Kitemark only. Ratings can be size-specific: a UK stockist says 30mm ABS sides do not carry the Kitemark. Marketplace listings sometimes borrow a rating from a different length or finish, so check for the stars stamped on the cylinder face when it arrives.
Measure before you order, because euro cylinders are sold by two lengths, inside and outside, and 35/35 is only a common pairing, not a universal one.
Yale's method: with the door open, find the fixing screw in the edge of the door, measure from its centre to the end of the existing cylinder on the inside (the A measurement), then from the same centre to the end on the outside (B). Thicker composite doors often need 40/40 or an uneven pair such as 50/45. A cylinder that sticks out past the handle gives something to grip, so choose lengths that sit close to flush rather than rounding up.
Choose key-to-key or thumbturn with the door in mind.
A thumbturn has a key outside and a turn inside, so the door locks and unlocks from inside by hand, which helps anyone who struggles with keys and makes leaving in a hurry simpler. Yale recommends its Platinum thumbturn for use with the Linus L2 smart lock. The trade-off is that a turn can be reached by anyone who breaks a glass panel or reaches through a letterbox near the lock, so key-to-key suits those doors better. Some cylinders are handed, meaning one end must face outside; follow the maker's fitting leaflet exactly.
Fitting is a straight swap on many doors
Unlock, remove the fixing screw from the door edge, turn the key slightly so the cam lines up with the body, slide the old cylinder out, then reverse the steps with the new one and test it with the door open. Many householders do this with a screwdriver. A locksmith is the safe route if you are unsure, and especially if the cylinder sticks, the door needs lifting to lock, the lengths are unclear or the cylinder is handed. A Master Locksmiths Association member can check the rest of the door too. Register any guarantee the maker offers.
We verify every product's specifications against at least two independent sources, re-check its UK price and stock on a schedule where we can track it automatically, and cross-check safety-relevant claims against official guidance. Every review is labelled Researched or Used and reviewed by us: where we've bought a product, or been sent it free, and used it ourselves, its review says which; where we haven't, our verdict is a considered spec-and-evidence comparison, not a hands-on test — and commissions never change a ranking either way. Common questions
What is lock snapping and does it affect my door?
Lock snapping is a way of forcing a door that uses a euro cylinder, the barrel lock on most uPVC and composite doors. Police crime-prevention advice explains that force on the part sticking out of the door can break a standard cylinder at its weak point by the fixing screw, exposing the mechanism. Doors with a traditional lever mortice lock or a round-barrel nightlatch do not use euro cylinders. A TS007 3-star cylinder is designed so that breaking the outer part still leaves the door locked.
What does TS007 3-star mean, and how is it different from Sold Secure Diamond?
TS007 is a British Standard for replacement cylinders and security handles, shown as a Kitemark with stars. Three stars on the cylinder means it is rated on its own against snapping, drilling, picking and bumping; a 1-star cylinder needs a 2-star security handle to reach the same level. Sold Secure Diamond (SS312) is a separate test endorsed by the Master Locksmiths Association. Several cylinders hold both, but only the exact model named by the maker carries the rating.
How do I measure my euro cylinder?
Open the door and find the single fixing screw in the edge of the door, roughly level with the cylinder. Yale’s method is to measure from the centre of that screw to the end of the cylinder on the inside face of the door, then from the same centre to the end on the outside face. Note them as inside/outside, for example 40/35. Thicker composite doors often need longer or uneven pairs, so do not assume 35/35. If the figures match no listed size, ask a locksmith.
Can I fit an anti-snap cylinder myself?
Often, yes. On many doors it is a straight swap: remove the fixing screw from the door edge, turn the key slightly so the cam lines up with the body and slide the cylinder out, then fit the new one in reverse and test it with the door open before closing it. Take extra care with handed cylinders, where one end must face outside. If you are unsure at any point, the door needs lifting to lock or the lengths are unclear, a locksmith is the safe choice.
Should I choose a thumbturn or a key-to-key cylinder?
A thumbturn has a key outside and a hand turn inside, so you can lock up without hunting for a key and leave quickly. Yale recommends its Platinum thumbturn for use with the Linus L2 smart lock. The drawback is that anyone who breaks a glass panel or reaches through a letterbox near the lock could turn it. If your door has glass or a letterbox within arm's reach of the lock, a key-to-key cylinder is the better fit; keep a key somewhere quick to reach inside.
Will an anti-snap cylinder affect my home insurance?
Insurers often ask what locks are on the main doors, and some policies set lock requirements, so check your policy wording rather than assuming a new cylinder changes anything. Keep the maker's page or packaging showing TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond for your model, and tell your insurer if they asked about locks when you took out the policy. Any lock only helps if the door closes and locks properly, so fix that first.
