Best heated jackets and gilets UK (2026): tool-battery and ready-to-wear
A heated jacket or gilet runs thin heating panels across the back, chest or pockets from a rechargeable battery, so it warms the person wearing it rather than the room. That makes it useful for outdoor work, dog walks and a cold house in a power cut, but no substitute for heating anyone vulnerable. This page compares UK-sold garments on what separates them: whether a battery is included, which battery system it uses, how many zones are heated and for how long by the maker's figures. We have not worn or measured any of them; every figure is credited to the maker or a retailer listing.

Our verdictOur verdictResearched ORORO describes a padded gilet with a water and wind resistant nylon shell and heating at the collar, the back and both sides of the front, powered by its Mini 5K pack, which comes with the UK listing. The maker quotes about three hours on high, six on medium and ten on low, and says the pack charges fully in around four hours from a 5V 3A charger. It works well as a layer under a coat or on its own on a dry, still day, but it only warms while the battery lasts. Best for A healthy adult who wants a light heated layer for dog walks, gardening or a cold room without carrying a tool battery. Good

Our verdictOur verdictResearched DeWalt describes a soft-shell jacket with three heating zones, three heat settings and a pre-heat mode, sold as a kit with a battery, fast charger and a USB adapter; UK sellers list it as 18V XR with one 2.0Ah pack (DeWalt's US page calls the same kit 20V MAX). The outer shell is wind and water resistant over a fleece lining, and the battery can sit in a rear pocket or be moved to the front on a sewn-in lead. It is a work jacket for cold days outdoors, not a replacement for heating a home. Best for Someone who works or waits outdoors in the cold and wants a heated jacket that arrives with its battery and charger. Good
Worth knowing
Who shouldn't buy it: You need something for vulnerable or less mobile people to stay warm indoors; heated clothing does not replace heating, and anyone with reduced skin sensation should not rely on it.

Our verdictOur verdictResearched ORORO's women's four-zone jacket warms the collar, mid-back and both pockets from a 4800 mAh Mini 5K pack, and the maker quotes up to 10 hours on the low setting and 3 hours on high. The shell is described as water-resistant with a hood, and the heating elements carry a three-year warranty. It is a simple single-battery design, which keeps it easy to use. It covers the core and hands only, so it will not warm the arms. Best for Dog walks, gardening and cold commutes where a four-zone core-warming jacket is enough. Good

Who shouldn't buy it: Don't buy it if you want heated sleeves, you have reduced skin sensation, or you hope it will stand in for heating at home.

Our verdictOur verdictResearched ORORO's dual-control jacket heats five zones, covering the pockets, both arms and the mid-back, from a Mini 5K battery pack that comes with the UK listing. ORORO's page describes a fleece-lined, wind-resistant collar, a detachable hood and adjustable cuffs, and says the heating elements carry a three-year warranty. The maker's page for this pocket-heating version does not publish hours of heat, so check the listing before relying on a full day of use. It is a sensible extra layer for a cold house or garden, but it is not a substitute for heating. Best for Outdoor work or dog walks in the cold where heated arms as well as the core are wanted. Good
Worth knowing
Who shouldn't buy it: Don't buy it if someone in the household has reduced sensation in the skin, because heated clothing can burn without being felt, or you expect it to replace home heating.

Our verdictOur verdictResearched DeWalt's page describes a hoodie with three heat settings and heating zones across the upper chest and middle back, powered through a USB power source that takes 20V MAX batteries. DeWalt claims up to 7 hours on the low setting with a compact 1.5Ah pack, and the pocket expands to take larger packs. The hoodie and adaptor are sold without a battery or charger, so it only makes sense if you already have them. Best for Someone who already owns DeWalt 18V XR or 20V MAX batteries and wants a heated layer to wear under or instead of a jacket. Good
Worth knowing
Who shouldn't buy it: You do not already own DeWalt 18V XR or 20V MAX batteries and a charger, or you want something ready to wear out of the box. It does not replace heating for vulnerable people, and anyone with reduced skin sensation should not rely on it.

Our verdictOur verdictResearched This ORORO gilet heats the back, neck and both hand pockets from the same 4800 mAh Mini 5K pack as its jackets, with maker-quoted runtimes of 3 hours on high to 10 hours on low. Being sleeveless and quilted, it layers well under a coat. Because it has no sleeves, it warms the core and hands only. Best for A slim layer under a coat for people who feel the cold at a desk or on short outdoor trips. Good
Worth knowing
Who shouldn't buy it: Don't buy it if you want an outer layer for heavy rain or wind, or you expect it to replace heating for someone vulnerable to the cold.

Before you buy
Decide first whether you already own tool batteries.
The DeWalt garments here run from the same 18V XR packs (sold as 20V MAX in the US) as its drills, through an adaptor. The DCHJ090BD1 soft-shell is a kit, so the 2.0Ah battery, charger and adaptor are in the box by UK retailer listings. The DCHJ067B hoodie is sold bare: no battery, no charger, and a US size XL, so it only makes sense if you already have DeWalt packs; DeWalt says its power source has two USB ports for charging a phone. Milwaukee makes equivalent M12 garments, but none passed our UK stock and evidence checks for this page.
If you have no tool system, a garment with its own battery is simpler.
ORORO's jackets and gilet here all come with its Mini 5K pack, a 4800 mAh battery that the maker says charges from empty in about four hours with its 5V 3A charger. Because ORORO lists the same pack for each of them, a spare can be shared between garments. ORORO publishes a three-year warranty on the heating elements and one year on the battery, and sells through its own Amazon UK storefront, which matters for returns and spares.
Four-zone garments warm the core
ORORO's women's Classic 2.0 heats the collar, mid-back and both pockets, and its quilted gilet the back, neck and pockets. The men's Dual Control jacket heats five zones: both pockets, both arms and the mid-back. DeWalt's hoodie heats the upper chest on both sides and the mid-back; the soft-shell has three core zones. On hours, ORORO quotes 3 on high, 6 on medium and 10 on low for the Mini 5K; DeWalt quotes up to 7 hours on low for the hoodie on a 1.5Ah pack and no figure for the soft-shell kit. Plan around the high-setting figure.
Charge and store the battery as the maker says, because these are lithium cells worn against the body.
Use the supplied or specified charger, charge on a hard surface away from bedding, do not leave it charging overnight or while you are out, never charge a swollen, damp or damaged pack, and stop using a garment with a frayed lead or connector. Electrical Safety First publishes plain guidance on charging lithium batteries, as does our lithium battery fire safety guide. ORORO advises storing its pack at 60 to 80 per cent charge somewhere cool and dry, never below freezing, topped up every three to six months.
Wash it with the battery out, and only as the label allows.
ORORO's care pages say machine wash cold, at most 30C, on a delicate or hand-wash cycle, with no bleach, wringing, ironing or machine drying. For DeWalt, follow the care label, and never put a battery or adaptor through a wash. Start on the lowest setting, switch off if skin feels hot, and never sleep in a heated garment or wear one over broken skin or a dressing. For a burn, the NHS says cool it under cool or lukewarm running water for 20 minutes; our burn and scald guide covers when to seek help.
We verify every product's specifications against at least two independent sources, re-check its UK price and stock on a schedule where we can track it automatically, and cross-check safety-relevant claims against official guidance. Every review is labelled Researched or Used and reviewed by us: where we've bought a product, or been sent it free, and used it ourselves, its review says which; where we haven't, our verdict is a considered spec-and-evidence comparison, not a hands-on test — and commissions never change a ranking either way. Common questions
Do heated jackets come with the battery?
Not always, and it is the first thing to check. The DeWalt DCHJ090BD1 soft-shell is sold as a kit with an 18V XR 2.0Ah battery, charger and adaptor, by its UK retailer listings. The DeWalt DCHJ067B hoodie is sold bare, so you need your own DeWalt pack and charger. ORORO's jackets and gilet on this page each include the maker's Mini 5K battery. Listings that say apparel only or bare mean no battery.
How long does a heated jacket stay warm?
Only as long as the battery lasts, and the maker's figures depend on the setting. ORORO quotes about 3 hours on high, 6 on medium and 10 on low for its 4800 mAh Mini 5K pack. DeWalt quotes up to 7 hours on low for the DCHJ067B hoodie with a 1.5Ah pack, and gives no hours for the DCHJ090BD1 kit. Cold conditions can shorten runs, so plan around the high figure and carry a spare pack for a full day.
Can a heated jacket replace heating at home?
No. It warms one person while a battery lasts, and does nothing for damp, condensation or frozen pipes. It can take the edge off a cold room for a healthy adult during a power cut, but anyone older, unwell, very young or with reduced sensation needs a warm room; UKHSA advises heating the rooms you use to at least 18C where you can. If heating is unaffordable, the Warm Home Discount, Cold Weather Payment and Priority Services Register exist for that, and our keeping-warm guide covers more.
Are heated jackets safe to wear?
The risks are the lithium battery and the heat itself, so follow the maker's instructions. The panels run from a low-voltage battery, not the mains. Charge with the supplied or specified charger, away from bedding and not overnight, and retire a damaged pack. Start on low, switch off if skin feels hot, do not sleep in one, and do not wear it over broken skin or a dressing. Anyone who cannot feel heat properly, or cannot easily take it off, should not use one.
Can I wash a heated jacket?
Yes, with the battery removed, following the maker's label. ORORO says machine wash cold, no warmer than 30C, on a delicate or hand-wash cycle, then line-dry or lay flat, with no bleach, wringing, ironing or machine drying. For DeWalt garments, follow the care label. Never put a battery or adaptor through a wash, and let the garment dry completely before reconnecting the pack.
Will DeWalt heated clothing work with my UK batteries?
DeWalt's US pages describe these garments as 20V MAX, which is the same battery platform sold in the UK as 18V XR; UK retailers list the DCHJ090BD1 kit as 18V XR with a 2.0Ah pack. The battery sits in a pocket and feeds the garment through a USB adaptor. Larger packs give longer runs but add weight at the back. DeWalt's warranty terms on its US pages are one year; UK terms are not stated there, so check with the seller.
