EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max review
EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max Portable Power Station
By Tom Calder
The DELTA 2 Max doubles the DELTA 2's capacity to 2,048Wh and lifts output to 2,400W, with EcoFlow quoting 3,100W under X-Boost. It can take two extra batteries for 6kWh, and 1,000W of solar input is more than most 1kWh units manage. UK reviewers rate it as capable but heavy at 23kg, against about 12kg for the DELTA 2. For a home that wants a day or more of fridge and lighting cover it is a strong middle step; the newer DELTA 3 Max is lighter for the same capacity.
- Best for
- A long power cut with a fridge, freezer, router and a few appliances, if you can live with a 23kg unit.
- Skip it if
- You will move it often or have steps to climb

What we like
- 2,048Wh and 2,400W covers a fridge plus a kettle-free set of essentials for much longer than a 1kWh unit
- Expands to 6kWh with two extra batteries
- Up to 1,000W of solar input and a roughly 53-minute AC recharge to 80% on EcoFlow's figures
Worth knowing
- 23kg makes it a two-handed lift that reviewers call at the limit of portability
- Fans can be heard under heavy loads on some reviewers' reports, though one long-run test found them unobtrusive at full rated output
- Older design that the lighter DELTA 3 Max now overlaps

Our review
The 2023 EcoFlow 2kWh station: 2,048Wh, 2,400W from four sockets, 23kg, and room for two extra batteries up to 6,144Wh. What matters most is what it keeps that the newer DELTA 3 Max gave up: twice the solar input and an expansion path. It suits a home that wants to start at two units of electricity and add a battery or panels later, and will not carry it far.
What the numbers mean
2,048Wh is two units of electricity, of which about 1,570Wh reaches the sockets by our planning method (90% depth of discharge, 85% inverter efficiency, 10W for the unit). 2,400W covers any plug-in appliance bar a 3kW kettle, 4,800W of surge absorbs compressor starts, and X-Boost stretches to 3,100W for heaters, not devices with voltage protection. EcoFlow rates the cells at 3,000 cycles to 80% capacity, which its page calls ten years of daily use.
In a UK power cut
By our runtime method over the appliance-draw dataset, a fridge-freezer lasts 26 to 71 hours, a router 2 to 3 days, a CPAP on blower alone 2 to 4 days (19 to 51 hours with a heated humidifier) and a gas combi boiler's electrics 12 to 35 hours. Fridge-freezer, router, four LED bulbs and a charging phone together give 9.5 to 28 hours; with the combi boiler, 5.5 to 17 hours, after an electrician's changeover. EcoFlow's own 14-hour fridge example assumes a 120W fridge running flat out, where UK fridge-freezers average 12 to 51W over a day; see will a power station run a fridge freezer. As a UPS it is the slowest of EcoFlow's 2kWh trio at 30ms, which a fridge or router will not notice; the manual says it is not for servers. Two timers matter for a fridge: the sockets shut down after 12 hours with no load and the unit after two hours idle, unless changed in the app.
How it compares
The DELTA 3 Max is the same 2,048Wh and 2,400W at 20.3kg with a 10ms switchover, but halves the solar input to 500W and has no extra-battery port. The DELTA 3 Max Plus matches this unit's solar input, gives 3,000W, weighs 22.1kg and grows to 10kWh. Jackery's Explorer 2000 v2 holds 2,042Wh at 17.5kg, if weight is the problem. The range is on EcoFlow power stations.
Living with it
From a UK socket EcoFlow quotes 0 to 80% in 53 minutes at 2,300W, or 43 minutes with mains and solar feeding 2,400W together. A full charge costs about 54p at the Ofgem price cap rate of 26.32p per kWh for October to December 2026, before losses. Two solar inputs take 500W each, 1,000W together, which EcoFlow says fills it in as little as 2.3 hours. Beyond the four sockets: two 100W USB-C, four USB-A, a 126W car socket and two DC5521 barrels. EcoFlow claims 30dB with low input and 500W of output at about half a metre. The UK warranty is five years with no registration step, and uk.ecoflow.com takes returns within 30 days, with the buyer paying return shipping and a 2.6% to 3.6% transaction fee.
Safety
The manual allows charging from 0°C to 45°C and discharging from -10°C to 45°C, with 20°C to 30°C best for use and storage. Give it a discharge and recharge every three months; EcoFlow says the warranty does not cover a pack left untouched for six. If it catches fire the order is water or water mist, sand, a fire blanket, dry powder, then CO2. It is not recommended for safety-critical medical equipment; see running medical equipment in a power cut and our lithium battery fire safety guide.
Our verdict
Buy it if you want 2kWh now with a route to 4kWh or 6kWh later, or have solar panels to feed it, and it will mostly stay put. Skip it if you will carry it: it is the heaviest of the three EcoFlow 2kWh units, and a 1kWh station of about 12kg covers a fridge and phones for an evening. If a 10ms switchover matters, the DELTA 3 Max has it and this does not. Our sizing guide shows which group you are in.

Who shouldn't buy this
You will move it often or have steps to climb: the 16.5kg DELTA 3 1500 or a 1kWh unit is easier to handle. If you do not need 2kWh, you are paying for capacity you will not use.

Questions
Can the EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max run a fridge-freezer?
Yes. A fridge-freezer averaging 12 to 51W runs 26 to 71 hours on the 2,048Wh battery by the site's method, and the 4,800W surge covers the compressor. Change the AC timeout in the app; the sockets otherwise switch off after 12 hours without load.
How long does the DELTA 2 Max take to charge?
EcoFlow quotes 0 to 80% in 53 minutes from a UK socket at 2,300W, 43 minutes with mains and solar combined at 2,400W, and as little as 2.3 hours from 1,000W of solar alone.
How many extra batteries can the DELTA 2 Max take?
Two. EcoFlow's page says two DELTA 2 Max Smart Extra Batteries take the system to 6,144Wh.
Does the DELTA 2 Max work as a UPS?
Yes, as a basic one. The manual says it switches to battery within 30ms when the grid fails, but not for anything needing a 0ms UPS such as a data server.
