EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max review

EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max Portable Power Station

By Tom Calder

Our verdict · Researched
4.4 / 5

The DELTA 3 Max is the fixed-capacity sibling of the DELTA 3 Max Plus: the same 2,048Wh capacity at 20.3kg against the Plus's 22.1kg, but with 2,400W of output where the Plus gives 3,000W, 500W of solar input where the Plus takes 1,000W, and no extra-battery port where the Plus grows to 10kWh. EcoFlow quotes a 3-year warranty plus a 2-year extension. It is the choice for someone who knows 2kWh is the ceiling they need and wants it a little lighter than the DELTA 2 Max; anyone who may add batteries later should pay for the Plus.

What we like

  • 2,048Wh and 2,400W in 20.3kg, about 3kg lighter than the DELTA 2 Max
  • AC recharge in roughly 68 minutes on the retailer's figure
  • LFP pack with an app and a quiet rating of 25dB at 600W stated by a UK retailer

Worth knowing

  • No expansion port: capacity stays at 2kWh
  • Solar input is 500W, half that of the Max Plus
  • Five-year cover relies on registering for the extra two years

Our review

EcoFlow's 2kWh station without an expansion port: 2,048Wh, 2,400W from four UK sockets, 20.3kg. The number that decides it is the one that is missing, because what you buy is all you will ever have. It suits a household that knows two units of electricity covers its fridge and broadband for a day or two and wants the lightest of EcoFlow's three 2kWh boxes.

What the numbers mean

2,048Wh is two units of electricity; by our planning method (90% depth of discharge, 85% inverter efficiency, 10W for the unit) about 1,570Wh reaches the sockets. 2,400W continuous means any plug-in appliance except a 3kW kettle runs normally, with 4,800W of surge for compressor starts. X-Boost lets heating loads up to 3,200W run at reduced voltage; the manual says that suits heaters, not anything with voltage protection. In bypass, with the mains on and appliances plugged through it, the UK version passes 8A, about 1,840W. EcoFlow's UK page gives no cycle rating for this model.

In a UK power cut

By our runtime method over the appliance-draw dataset, a fridge-freezer lasts 26 to 71 hours, a chest freezer 36 to 51 hours, a router 2 to 3 days, a CPAP on blower alone 2 to 4 days (19 to 51 hours with a heated humidifier) and a gas combi boiler's pump and controls 12 to 35 hours. Fridge-freezer, router, four LED bulbs and a charging phone together give 9.5 to 28 hours; with the combi boiler, 5.5 to 17 hours, after an electrician's changeover; see can a power station run a gas boiler. A 2.2kW kettle runs normally, a 3kW one only through X-Boost and more slowly. EcoFlow quotes a 10ms switchover with the unit between the wall and the fridge, with two conditions from the manual: set the AC timeout to Never in the app, and keep the grid feed larger than the load. It is not for life-sustaining medical equipment.

How it compares

The DELTA 3 Max Plus shares the body and the 2,048Wh but gives 3,000W, takes 1,000W of solar, adds a 30A Anderson socket and grows to 10kWh, for 1.8kg more. The older DELTA 2 Max is the same 2,048Wh and 2,400W at 23kg, with 1,000W of solar and two extra-battery ports, but a 30ms switchover. For BLUETTI's Elite 200 V2, see Elite 200 V2 vs DELTA 3 Max. The range is on EcoFlow power stations.

Living with it

The UK mains input is 10A, about 2,300W, and EcoFlow quotes 68 minutes to full. A full charge costs about 54p at the Ofgem price cap rate of 26.32p per kWh for October to December 2026, before losses. Solar is capped at 500W through an XT60i socket (11 to 60V). Beyond the sockets: one 100W USB-C, two 30W USB-C, one USB-A and a 126W car socket. EcoFlow's footnote puts noise at 25dB or less at 600W, measured at half a metre. The UK warranty is three years, plus two more if you register in the app; uk.ecoflow.com takes returns within 30 days, with the buyer paying return shipping and a 2.6% to 3.6% transaction fee.

Safety

It is IP20, so indoors or under cover. The manual allows charging from 0°C to 45°C and discharging from -10°C to 45°C, asks for storage at 20°C to 30°C ideally, and every three months a full charge then a discharge to 60%. If it catches fire EcoFlow lists water or water mist, sand, a fire blanket, dry powder and finally CO2, in that order. Unlike a generator it can live in a hallway; see power station vs generator and our lithium battery fire safety guide.

Our verdict

Buy it if 2kWh is your settled answer, you want EcoFlow's 10ms switchover and app, and the 2.7kg saved over the DELTA 2 Max matters because it moves between rooms or into a van. Skip it if there is any chance you will want more capacity later: the Plus is the only one of the pair that can grow. And if your cuts are a few hours and your load a fridge and phones, a 1kWh unit of about 12kg does the job. Our sizing guide shows which group you are in.

Who shouldn't buy this

You may want to grow past 2kWh or run heavier loads: the DELTA 3 Max Plus expands to 10kWh. If you only need a fridge, a 1kWh unit costs much less.

Questions

Can the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max run a fridge-freezer?

Yes. By the site's runtime method a fridge-freezer averaging 12 to 51W runs 26 to 71 hours on the 2,048Wh battery, and the 4,800W surge covers the compressor start. Set the AC timeout to Never in the EcoFlow app.

How loud is the DELTA 3 Max?

EcoFlow's footnote says 25dB or less at 600W of charging or discharging, measured at 0.5m in a 25°C room. It publishes no figure for a full-speed 2,300W charge.

Can I add an extra battery to the DELTA 3 Max?

No. EcoFlow's spec table lists no extra-battery port for this model. The DELTA 3 Max Plus has one and grows to 10kWh.

Is the DELTA 3 Max warranty five years?

Only if you register. EcoFlow's UK warranty page gives three years as standard and two more on registration in the EcoFlow app.
