EcoFlow DELTA 3 1500 review

EcoFlow DELTA 3 1500 Portable Power Station

By Tom Calder

Our verdict · Researched
4.3 / 5

The DELTA 3 1500 sits between the DELTA 3 Plus (1,024Wh) and the 2kWh class, with 1,536Wh, the same 1,800W output and a 16.5kg body. EcoFlow lists expansion to 5.5kWh and a 1,500W AC input that fills it in about 90 minutes. A UK retailer lists a 3,000-cycle LiFePO4 pack, so its cycle rating is below the DELTA 3 Plus's 4,000 on EcoFlow's own figures. It suits a household that finds 1kWh tight for a fridge plus a freezer but does not want the weight of a 2kWh unit.

What we like

  • 1,536Wh and 1,800W for 16.5kg, lighter than the 2,048Wh class
  • Expands to 5.5kWh and takes 500W of solar
  • Full recharge in about 90 minutes from the mains on EcoFlow's figure

Worth knowing

  • Solar input tops out at 500W, where the DELTA 3 Plus takes 1,000W
  • Cycle rating quoted by a retailer is 3,000, below the DELTA 3 Plus's 4,000
  • Few independent reviews or owner reports exist for this model yet, and reviewers of the closely related DELTA 3 Plus flag frequent fan noise

Our review

The in-between DELTA: 1,536Wh and 1,800W in a 16.5kg body, between EcoFlow's 1kWh units and its 2kWh Max. What matters most is the trade: half a unit more electricity than a DELTA 3 Plus for about 4kg more weight, with a port for extra batteries up to 5.5kWh. It suits a household where a 1kWh station runs dry overnight with a fridge and a freezer, but a 20kg box is too much to lift.

What the numbers mean

1,536Wh is one and a half units of electricity; by our planning method (90% depth of discharge, 85% inverter efficiency, 10W for the unit) about 1,175Wh reaches the sockets. 1,800W from four UK sockets covers a fridge or a microwave, with 3,600W of surge for compressor starts; X-Boost lifts the ceiling to 2,400W for heating loads, so a 2.2kW kettle boils at reduced voltage but a 3kW one is beyond it. EcoFlow rates the cells at 3,000 cycles to 70% capacity, a lower finishing line than the 80% most makers use, so it does not compare directly with the DELTA 3 Plus's rating.

In a UK power cut

By our runtime method over the appliance-draw dataset, a fridge-freezer lasts 19 to 53 hours, a chest freezer 27 to 38 hours and the two together 12 to 27 hours. A router runs about 2 days, a CPAP on blower alone 39 to 84 hours and a gas combi boiler's electrics 9 to 26 hours. Fridge-freezer, router, four LED bulbs and a charging phone together give 7 to 21 hours; with the combi boiler, 4 to 13 hours, after an electrician's changeover. See will a power station run a fridge freezer and which power station will run a CPAP. As a UPS the transfer time is 15ms, fine for a fridge or router; the manual says to set the AC timeout to Never for a fridge, and that it is not for life-sustaining medical equipment.

How it compares

The EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus is the natural comparison: 1,024Wh and the same 1,800W at 12.5kg, with 1,000W of solar input, a 10ms switchover and expansion to 5kWh. The DELTA 3 Max is the step up: 2,048Wh, 2,400W and 20.3kg, with the same 500W solar limit and no expansion. BLUETTI's Elite 100 V2 is the lightest of the group at 11.5kg and 1,024Wh. The range is on EcoFlow power stations.

Living with it

From a UK socket at 1,500W EcoFlow quotes 0 to 80% in 60 minutes and full in 90. A full charge costs about 40p at the Ofgem price cap rate of 26.32p per kWh for October to December 2026, before losses. Solar input is 500W, about 3.5 hours on EcoFlow's figure; its 800W alternator charger fills it in about two hours. Ports: four sockets, two 100W USB-C, four USB-A, a car socket and two DC5521 barrels, thirteen in all. EcoFlow quotes under 35dB at 600W and under 45dB at 1,200W. The UK warranty is five years, and uk.ecoflow.com takes returns within 30 days with the buyer paying return shipping and a 2.6% to 3.6% transaction fee.

Safety

The manual allows charging from 0°C to 45°C and discharging from -10°C to 45°C, with 20°C to 30°C best for storage. Every three months give it a full charge then a discharge to 60%; EcoFlow says a pack left uncharged for more than six months is not covered. If it catches fire the order is water or water mist, sand, a fire blanket, dry powder, then CO2. The page's IP54 applies to the battery pack; the main unit carries no IP rating in the manual, so treat it as indoors or under cover. See our lithium battery fire safety guide.

Our verdict

Buy it if a 1kWh unit has left you short before, you want a fridge and a freezer covered through a night and the next day, and 16.5kg is as much as you will carry; the extra-battery port lets you add capacity later. Skip it if a fridge and phones are the whole job, which a DELTA 3 Plus or DELTA 3 Classic handles for less weight, or if solar panels will feed it, because the 500W input is half what the DELTA 3 Plus accepts. Our sizing guide shows which group you are in.

Who shouldn't buy this

You have only a fridge to cover: the 1,024Wh DELTA 3 Classic does that for less. If you want heavy appliances or several days of cover, step up to the DELTA 3 Max Plus.

Questions

Can the EcoFlow DELTA 3 1500 run a fridge-freezer?

Yes. By the site's runtime method a fridge-freezer averaging 12 to 51W runs 19 to 53 hours on the 1,536Wh battery, and the 3,600W surge covers the compressor start. Set the AC timeout to Never in the EcoFlow app.

Can the DELTA 3 1500 boil a kettle?

A 2.2kW kettle, yes, through X-Boost at reduced voltage, since X-Boost allows up to 2,400W for heating loads. A 3kW kettle is above that ceiling, so do not count on it.

How long does the DELTA 3 1500 take to charge?

EcoFlow quotes 0 to 80% in 60 minutes and 0 to 100% in 90 minutes from a UK socket at 1,500W, and about 3.5 hours from 500W of solar in good sun.

Which extra batteries fit the DELTA 3 1500?

EcoFlow's UK page lists the DELTA 3, DELTA 2, DELTA 2 Max and DELTA Pro 3 extra batteries, taking the system to 5.5kWh.
